I decided to finally tear down one of our oldest shooting houses, which was probably pushing 25 years. It managed to survive Hurricane Ivan, and thus became known as Fort Ivan, after some minor repairs. I drew everything out on paper and printed out my cut sheets. Got all the lumber and started building the frame first then moved on to the panels. It is designed in pieces and put together with all screws so if I ever decide to pack it in, I can easily take it apart and move it with me. This is third one from these general plans that I have built and unfortunately they haven't seemed to get any easier, just bigger. I painted the outside walls today and plan to start assembling the walls on top of the frame after hunting in the morning. It is going to end up with a 6x5' box with a 3' open deck on back. It was easier to just use a full sheet than to cut it down. All treated lumber and it will end being one heavy house. More pics to come.

I picked them up at Academy. I think they were around $74.00 but definitely worth it.

They are called elevator brackets or some variation of that depending on who makes them.

My grandmother would have said “you got them between the a and the t” lol.
I just built two angled platforms without the brackets. I couldn’t stomach paying for them.
That one your building will last a WHILE no doubt with all that bracing. Looks good

Why not use 2x2 for the walls instead of 2x4? Would cut weight down some

I building it to last. I have One that I built 26 years ago and it is still as good as it was way back then and haven’t had to make any repairs. I probsbly Have about $1100 in it but I know It is built better than most that you can buy for $2-3000. I could Have used untreated lumber I suppose But this way it’s good for years to come

Nice house for sure. Post a picture when you get it all set up and in the woods.

I was lucky to have one of our members hunt with me this morning and was willing to help put up the panels. All that is left is the roof, handrails, door and some painting and she will be ready to go. Ironic that both of us only bow hunt.
