Local news stations here are playing it down, saying it will fizzle out.

Don't believe that was Opal.

It was Opal, but it wasn't 130 mph in BHM. I think it was 130 at landfall with gusts up to 100 mph in BHM. There were big oaks down everywhere. Some old couple decided to go site seeing in our neighborhood during what was left of the eye passing. A big oak fell on their car and killed either one or both of them. We lost a 40 ac patch of 12 year old planted pines in Dallas County, looked like a field of pick-em up sticks.

If I remember correctly opal had a lot of tornadoes that spun off of it. I hunted some land north of Troy that got hammered,

That early model sucks for us in s/w Alabama. And, yes I know, Outback doesn’t give a ratzazz about coastal Alabama, or much else for that matter.

As with most fast moving storms the forecast models are almost in complete unison with this storm going over Dothan or just southwest of the state. Everybody north of it would be on the "weak" side.

Edit: Meant to say Southeast. I'm a lefty....everything is backwards to my dumbass.

Yeah open was a bitch . Pop had the timber cut a couple months before and I went through and marked 17 white oaks not to cut . Opel took the all down . Was said we had 85 mph wind gust in elmore county . Plus a lot of rain before she hit .

Opal put my wife’s parents house on 30A in oyster lake. The house was under construction but in the dry. He was building out of pocket and had no insurance on the house. It was downhill for them afterwards.

Opal is a dirty word around here.

Opal blew a big pine down on the trailer I was living in at Auburn. I am just glad Wes & I were at a Hurricane keg party at College Park.
When we got to the trailer the next morning, Our other roommate Mitch was standing there leaning against the tree and said " Ya'll just missed CNN."
Said the lady reporter asked " what are ya'll going to do now Mr. Duke?" Mitch said "Hell I guess We are fixing to start drinkin!"
Don't believe that quote made it to air....

The model they showed this morning has changed. Now every track has it headed to the Fl panhandle.

Dang 257, with the exception of storm surge, all any hurricane is made of is wind and rain. slap

We have 80% rain projected for Monday. Not sure if that's from the storm or what.
