That officer that shot and killed a woman inside her home resigned today. Tonight they announced he has been charged with murder. Sad but he screwed the pooch and now hew has to pay for it.

Even if she had a pistol, you couldn't blame here. He was walking around the outside of her home in her flowerbeds shining a flashlight. Especially since he never identified his self.

And then cities lower standards and do away with psych evaluations in order to fill the vacant positions. None of the geniuses that run these cities think that the way to fill the positions is to make it a more attractive job. In the end, they should be as accountable as the officers that screw up and never should have been there to start with.

Yep i agree. But Belly, this just didn't happen over night, i had a friend who was a decorated officer (and soldier) tell me one time they're just letting anyone be a cop these days, and that was said about 19 years ago

This trend in LE actually started about 1985 when many police academies were mandated by politicians to move away from military boot camp style academies to a more academic approach, the term "like college" is what you would hear. This was supposed to attract better candidates, but since they didn't include greater pay and benefits for the better candidates, it didn't work. This is when the great officer shortage really began and gov'ts began to try to make up this deficit by lowering standards, thus driving away even more of the better qualified candidates and officers.

The 8 yr old nephew who was inside the apt has stated the woman pointed a pistol at the window where the officer was. I feel the fact that he fired thru the window is irrelevant. A perp can kill someone shooting through a window.
The fact that fries him is that he never ID'd himself and since the door was open, why not knock on it?

Realistically speaking, even if he had ID'd himself at the moment he saw the woman through the window with a gun, how quickly do you think she could have reacted and put the gun away before getting shot? Someone coming to my window at 2:30 AM and starts yelling they are the police I do not think I would believe them. I would be a statistic just like she is.

This is a failure in procedure and training that starts at the top, in addition to poor judgment by the officer.

She was not at fault. My point is that they are making a big deal out of the fact that he fired thru the window. He could also be killed by a shot fired thru a window. His mistake was not merely knocking on the door while identifying himself as a LEO.

I agree, shooting through the window is not material to the issue.
