That's cool. I just bought ten of them. 😁

Yeah. I was blown away by that. Never seen anything like it before. Who in the world can even think up these things?!

What is the actual purpose of that machine in pine management ?

They limb them like that so they can be used for utility poles. Cuts down on the knots.

We prune certain stands manually to a certain height. Live and dead limbs. Allows the tree to grow free and clear wood without knots. However, that machine was going way higher than you can manually prune with a pole saw. And that didn’t look like southern pine to me, but it was grainy video. Couldn’t be exactly sure what the particular goal is there.

In the early 70's International Paper had a gasoline powered machine similar to that.. They called it a Monkey, it was a lot slower than that, but similar results. The idea was to try and improve the pole percentages at maturity.

Waerhauser did that on some land I used to hunt. It wasn't that sofistimacated though. Long boom with a saw on the end did the trick. That machine would take longer to cut limbs than the saw on a boom lift that they had. The setup of that machine required would take up a lot of time.

I bet that thing is perfectly useless outside of a pine plantation.

That's neat but time consuming. Fix it so it fits on a boom and you got some money.

It be's that way sometimes.

How about this one. Fells, de-limbs and chops the entire tree in about 30sec

All in one cutter

I'm guessing that its going up to a certain min diameter and stopping. What would be even better than it getting hung up is for something to go wrong with that little dial and it just go sailing off the top of the tree like a rocket. laugh
