Braves had the go ahead run at second in the 8th wth no outs and instead of bunting the runner over they let Albies swing away. They left Acuna stranded and lost in extra innings. I know the modern game is all about the long ball and the big inning but sometimes one run is all you need.

I was watching it asking the same question, why aren't they bunting Acuna over and then Albies hits a lazy fly ball to shallow LF for the 1st out. Then it dawned on me oh yeah it's a HR league/ strike out league now, no one knows how to bunt except for the pitcher. Snitker is kicking himself after that coaching mistake.

A guy hitting as hot as Ozzie, you don't take the bat out of his hands. What happens if he bunts it right back to the pitcher and Acuna gets swiped heading to third? If Albies slaps one in the gap or hits his second homerun of the game, everyone is happy. Snitker isn't kicking himself. It was the right play it just didn't work out.

This. Albies is hot but also you can’t count on freeman to drive in runs right now. He’s still hurt. He struck out 3 times yesterday on an outside corner strike that he normally drives to the opposite field with power. I think it was the right call to let Albies swing away. Any kind of production at all from Freeman yesterday and the series is over with already.

albies bunts him over...you have a passed ball threat, freddie's grounder may have got thru a pulled in infield or he just may have been able to get a ball in the air. I'm old school, i'll take the bat outta his hands to move the winning run 90' away, with 2 outs to work with to get him in. Earlier in the game, sure you let him swing away.

Yeah thats all true. But you can't assume the bunt is a given. It's not old school /new school, it's percentages. A pitcher with a lifetime BA of 0.079 sure absolutely bunt. A guy cureently 2-3 in the game with a double and a home run? Nah that guy needs to be swinging.

This ^^^^. Way more ways to score from 3rd than there is from 2nd. You don't need a big inning. You need 1 run. A good hitter is anyone hitting 300 or above but to lay down a blunt that advances the runner is not that difficult. If he only advances the runner 60% of the time (the percentage should be much higher than this) he's given his team a much better chance of scoring, either on a wild pitch, a sacrifice , a balk , a hit , or an error. If it were the 5th inning, swing away but when you only need 1 run in the 8th the decision seems easy, in my opinion.

No way I take the bat out of Albies hand. Especially the way Freeman has been swinging. He can’t hardly hit a foul ball right now.

But after albies weakly popped to ss, freddie hit a rocket into the shift in right center. Had albies sac'd him over, the infield woulda been in and that ball may have gone for a hit...or booted (who knows)...but there were way more chances of scoring acuna from 3rd with 1 out than there was from second (with 1 or 2 outs). They just needed 1 run.

Well if I knew what the future held I'd probably change alot of things today. But I can't foresee that. You make a decision on the play before it's played. Looking back on what should have been done because this and this happened after that is not logical.

I just hope they get to win tomorrow night in Atlanta and we can all be ok that they lost game 4 and got to clinch the series at home.

Gman gets it. Hot or not you move him up 90ft and now you put pressure on the pitcher to keep it out of the dirt. The entire sequences of pitches changes and the pressure is now on the pitcher and Defense. Plus, Albies can fly, he's a threat to lay one down and beat it out.
