I always had the best catches on silver/black floating Rapala's.

Rooster tail, Beetle spin, and Snagless Sally. That will cover it all.

A 1/8 ounce lead jig head and a 3" white curly tail grub will catch any fish that swims in a creek, or anywhere else for that matter.

Adjust size to match current and size of fish. I have caught stripers and amberjacks on the big ones, green sunfish on the little ones, and everything in between on the middle sized ones. Most consistent artificial lure I have ever tried.

One of the great things about creek fish is that they are usually not hard to catch, especially this time of year. With the creek low, the fish have to congregate in the bigger pools, and there is often a race for your lure when it hits the water. I don't think it's necessary to carry a lot of different lures and have settled on using spinner baits and Texas rigged 6" worms, with a small crankbait to try if they aren't biting good.

A roostertail will work very well, but I think they hang up too often with the treble hook. Instead, I use a 1/8 oz spinner that is made just like a regular spinner baits. Walmart always has them in various colors, and they hardly ever hang up.

The only special skill I've found you need for creek fishing is to make sure you don't scare the fish. If a place has any pressure, the bigger ones become very spooky and will see you from that clear water. Make long casts into the holes, and at times I have even used bank cover to slip up on a good hole.

4" Straight tail green pumpkin worm on an 1/8 oz. Shakey Head. Wade down below the shoals and throw the worm up into the shoal and let it wash out. into the pool below. There are some creeks in Blount County that you can wade and catch 100 small bass (spots) a day. Most are in the 10"- 12" size but I have caught a ton in the 2-3 lb range. A 3 pound spot that lives in current is almost more than you can handle on light weight gear. They absolutely love those little worms.
You can always also catch a few around lay down trees when wadding the pools down to the next shoal.

Be CAREFUL of snakes and plan to almost certainly bust your ass at least once on slick rocks. Other than those two things, there is almost nothing more fun on a hot day than wade fishing a creek.
