Over the years I've been an inconsistent Christian with the way I live my life. My church had a new Pastor come that has really stressed the importance of living out what you say you are. So many people I know say they are Christians but make no attempt at all to live it out. Daily studying of my Bible has really helped me stay on a path of consistent living. It's hard to live as a Christian if you don't have a steady thirst for the Word.

As mentioned above I use the Bible app and get on "a plan" to read through the year. I usually do the Bible in a year, or try to at least. That accomplishes the reading part. Recently I've discovered Dr. J Vernon McGee on www.ttb.org (Thru The Bible) and he breaks down every book of the Bible in ways I can understand. This has helped me to grasp the meaning of each book and really has opened the word to me.

Lately I've been doing a reference word study. Example: I search for the word humility. Then i read the verses and expand to read the verse in context. It may take a week or more to get through them all. Then I start a new search.

I read every night before bed. Read until I have to re-read something then lay it down and go to sleep. You're absolutely right.
Character is not developed in moments of temptation and trial. That is when it is intended to be used.

Then I start a new search. i've fallen off the wagon, but ^^^ is a great way to read AND RETAIN the Bible ... i know a thousand folks who've read it cover to cover & can't quote you a thing in prayer/advice ... i find i better retain the Word studying it like the above studying w/a men's group is good ... using teachings on topics is good, as well -- anytime i get a little out of whack, i usually go back to studying the Love of God in some form ...

The app thing has been a blessing, I at least read a verse every day. Small groups have been a plus. And we have had a study group at my church at various times, we did the Book of Acts not too long ago. I learned a great deal. I still need to read more on my own, I think. A good study Bible is a must for me.

What is everyone’s “study plan” or “strategy” for lack of better words to keep you on track? Chapter in a book at a time until finished? Straight through the Bible? What has worked best for you to help you remain consistent?
The best "strategy" is having a group of men you meet with regularly and keep each other accountable on what you are LEARNING, not just reading. There is big difference in reading the Bible and paying attention to what you are reading. If you want to read through the whole thing, a chronological reading plan helps me. Helps understand the whole picture how those "Sunday School stories" actually fit in to it all. I know we are talking about the Bible specifically, but Robby Gallaty has a series of books that are excellent to read and help understand the importance of memorization, reading, community, all that. Growing Up is the first one I think. I'd encourage anyone to check them out. That dude's testimony is powerful. I've been reading some of his stuff for years but I took my students to a camp he spoke at this summer and I've never seen my students so engaged and ready to dive into the word since camp. It's been great.

Many people don't live what they say but everybody lives what they believe. I want my testimony to be how I live my life and not so much the words that come out of my mouth. i want to be an action verb Christian.
