Anybody got a contact for somewhere to buy already dried White Oak? I've got a customer needing a 48' flatbed refloored.

Be better to wait a couple more months til the sap comes down. I don’t know of anybody that actually air dries stuff long enough for it to make any kind of difference. I’ll be cutting white oak for the next 2 weeks starting Monday if he’s in a rush but I’d recommend waiting.

There used to be a guy and his sons in Valley head that had chicken houses full of red/white oak. He had a small band mill in one of them. Family used to own hundreds of acres in the valley up the mountain to Mentone. Very weird feller too.

Daniel and Jeremy Millican. I had forgot about them. They used to saw for us years ago then they went into business for themselves. They may have some lumber that actually is air dried. They may seem a little different but actually they are just really humble good hard working folks.

Millican, yes. The daddy rabbit was helping a family friend sell her timber. We bought it. Well, had three months left on contract and I wanted a 6 month extension because it was in GA (above the AL/GA church in Dekalb Co.) and coming out a narrow road that a lot of younger school aged kids lived on. I contacted family about the extension and we met face to face. Millican was there telling owner "she needed to get some money from me for the extension". I said no and "we would be there next week to start cutting". She was worried about the school bus and trucks meeting on the road. She called next day and said she would grant the extension as long as we cut it when school got out. I put it in writing and we signed off on it. Millican was trying to get a 25% payment for her for the extension. Not from me.

Most timber contracts give the buyer a full year to harvest the timber. There are certainly factors that would warrant an extension. There is also the fact that giving an extension for more than the agreed time will delay any reforestation effort. With reasonable people, a solution can easily be arranged. I think it would be fair for a landowner to expect some compensation for losing a years growth but 25% is excessive.

Millican?

I went there with my buddy a couple of weeks ago and it was weird to see that much wood and other stuff, just sort of stored Helter Skelter all over the place. He's got some nice wood, but you have to kind of talk him out of it.
