I don't now if it's true, but I heard that a Yeti full of Italian Dressing (make sure it's zesty) will kill all CWD.

Plus it helps get rid of that disgusting, awful deer meat taste.

Yep never had a problem and I used to process for money just dont leave the carcass in cooler for 2 weeks run a risk of creating bacteria

Do you soak your steaks in water? Your chicken? Your pork chops?

here we go again -- the war between dry vs. wet aging ...

here's a great article to read on this topic: https://www.realtree.com/brow-tines-and-backstrap/the-great-debate-aging-venison ...

you'll see -- wet aging is gaining popularity ...

Stephen Rinella has some wisdom on this topic. Would you knowingly eat a burger that you know to contain CWD? Would you feed it to your kid? Most would not. And if you don’t test it you won’t know.

It's not even like it's particularly hard/expensive to have it tested....you don't have to ship it off somewhere across the country on your dime. They literally have testing drop-off sites scattered around the state, and they test it at no cost to the hunter.

CWD may be completely, totally, 100% harmless to humans......but, based on what little we really know about it so far, there's just no reason to risk it. I'm not sure why some feel like it's a badge of honor or pride to act totally unconcerned about it......but, to each his own.

I've dry aged a lot of game. I have a fridge in my basement that has a piece of cow panel that I can hang 4 deer quarters. I've left one quarter up for a month.

I've never hung a full deer. Mine are usually in quarters not long after they are dead and long before I get to the house.

Do it.

Just a regular ol' fridge or like a commercial cooler? If the former, shoot me a pic of your setup

Ive always done my own. This year a built a small walkin cooler that's cooled with a window air condition and a coolbot. The coolbot will let the airconditioner cool down to low 30's. All I used was 2x4 frame, spray In insulation and white board. Door is a metal door.

Yep. You can make one relatively easy. I was thinking of building a nice sized one this year, but don’t have the time. Maybe I’ll find time or Maybe next year.

absolutely, but building one on a trailer makes more sense for many A buddy and me are planning a build cause he got an old walk-in from a store. plan to use the coolbot but build it on a trailer.

Side note, for the last 40 years we have used a beer trailer (from a distributor) during gun season and just rig it up to put our deer in. Yes there were some trial years using kegs too, but after a few rainy days nobody wants to have to walk out and get wet every time you need a refill.

A Trailer and a Walk In cooler? I figured you either salt cured or smoked all your meat 🙄

I see what you did there. But it ain't got none of that new fancy refrigerant in it. Just like my basement fridge, which is a 1952 Crosley (all original). not a real icebox, so maybe I am more sophisticated than you think.

I soak mine in saltwater for every other day salt then fresh first 2 days...not trying to be a smartass but I promise I've been cutting meat since I was 13 I no what taste best I processed for several years also everyone said it was the best they ever had
And I do soak my quail in water 😁

This. I've processed my own deer for many years now and keep the quarters in ice water for a full week before final processing. It is 100% better than anything a processor will give you.
