My point being he couldnt get the best players In the pro's therefore he wasn't successful. I see piles of high school coaches that look like gold a few years then the talent runs out. And I know plenty about college football and the university of Alabama. I have a daughter there right now In electrical engineering school. Oh and coaching and recruiting are not the same thing. In the pros the GM gets the players not the coach.... not sure what point you're trying to make. Saban wanted the best player but the GM over ruled him.

Sticking him with Dante culpepper instead of Drew Brees is one of the biggest reasons he ended up at Alabama. Think it may have been the team doctors even moreso than the GM. Either way he was pissed

Saban isn't that great of a coach. He is an excellant recruiter. Common sense tells you if you get the best players from around the country you'll be successful. If college coaches could only recruit in there own state he would be in a mess. Miami (college) would be on top of the world. The fact that you don't see those two (coaching/recruiting) as the same thing in college shows how much you know about college football. When you're a head coach you're a CEO, you're not a low level employee. In other words you're the store manager not a shelf stocker. Saban isn't going to be out there drawing up X's and O's but he's going to be ensuring he's got the best folks doing it. He's also going to be ensuring he's got the best players coming in. People say this all the time to make some kind of attempt to bring down his glory but I'm sorry, Saban is absolutely the greatest college football coach of all time and it's not even close. You give Saban and his "best folks" the roster in Knoxville right now and see how that works out for you...

I get a kick out of rival fans of Bama saying that Saban wasn't a good NFL coach....like it's a bad thing for Bama.
It's an AWESOME thing for Bama.
