If that fish were caught in an Alabama water body, there'd be so much mercury in it, you could tell the temperature outside.

I thought this was going to be about the fella I talked to Sat at Woodland in Woodstock. He claimed to have caught a 230# Yellow Catfish below Guntersville dam this spring, said he got 180# of meat off it. Weighed by Fish and Game employee at the dam.

I would have to see that to believe it

I’ve only told a handful of folks this bc I don’t figure many will believe me. Don’t make any difference if they do.

About 13-14 years ago, I had an old 16’ flat bottom. I was fishing close to Goose Pond and decided I was headed back to Roseberry. As I rounded the bend and headed into the main channel, I saw what I though was a white 55 gallon drum. I rode over, mainly bc I’m a hoarder, but quickly realized it wasn’t a drum at all. It was the white belly of a GIANT blue cat laying dead on his side. His belly was as big as a 55gal drum. I pulled my boat right up to him and he was easily half as long as my boat. I’d say he was 36” from his dorsal fin to his belly and his tail fin was about 18” wide.

I’m 6-5 and 300lbs and this fish was bigger than me by a good bit. I had an old flip camera phone, but didn’t even think to take a picture.

I would not have been able to bite my tongue if someone told me that BS the state record yellow cat is 80#. this is a 53# I caught over 12 years ago at lake Mitchell

All fish stories are embellished a little but you gotta keep it reasonable. Plus the less proof the better. Gkelly that cat and you both don't weigh 53#!! JK nice catch!

Seen an old hardcore lookin redneck pull one up after an hour. I stopped and watched him pull the head up against his boat to release it. Biggest i ever saw there. He said it was about 60lbs but im thinking 80 compared to gkelly pic above. His was a blue cat. He had a home lawn patio umbrella rigged up on his 80s bass boat. Long hair in a pony tail. Cig hangin out his mouth. Skinny as a rail and tatted up with sleeveless shirt.

He was about a 50yr old man. Said growin up they would catch a 40lber or more almost every single trip on that river. He said they fell off big time. Thought commercial fishermen hit them real hard. This was around 2002.

A coworker caught a 45lber off the bank above g ville dam at 4am a while back. Only fish the whole night they said.
