The first and last time I drank Bourbon was 56 years ago when I was 16. I had just shot my first deer and my Dad had a bottle of Old Grandad. I drank about 8 ounces of it, and puked my guts out. The two times I drank Tequila I threw up blood- never again. I just have never liked the taste of straight hard liquor. I’ll drink an occasional beer or a glass of wine with a meal, but that’s about it. I’ve got enough bad habits that I don’t need alcohol abuse added. 8oz of ANY 40% or higher of straight booze drank rapidly would make most people puke. Negative ghostrider. That's called getting started.

Aberlour 18 year, macallon 15 year, a couple cheaper that aren’t bad Glenlivet 12 year, and Aberlour 12 year. If I’m going to drink a blend I do Chivas Regal or Johnny Walker Red. ^^^ yup; i'm a Glenlivit 12 year guy myself ...

Glenmorangie is just wonderful. It honestly taste like you took an orange dreamsicle and smoked it over a fire. One of my favorite single malts and it wont break the bank. . Just shows how far tastes can differ. I think Glenmorangie tastes like the smell of a latex bandaid. Literally turns my stomach.

There are 3 regions - Speyside tend to be fruitier, with some vanilla - think MaCallan and Glenmorangie or Balvenie. Highlands, such as Oban or Glendronach, are more typical of some of the blends; a little harsher, Lastly, the Islays include the peaty ones such as Lagavulin or Laphroag.
If you want to try single malts, I'd start with the Speyside or Highlands
BTW, I was told at one time that the largest single customer of Macallan was Famous Grouse. Macallan is essentially the base of the blend. That may or may not still be true.
Used to be a lifeguard, until that blue kid got me fired.

well I just learned some good jargon, just in case I ever have to bump elbows with the high society. The Scots are not High Society my friend. the liquor they made just happened to be the best in the world, and there are actually 4 regions, add the Lowlands There are five distilleries that remain in operation: Auchentoshan, Bladnoch, Glenkinchie, Annandale and Ailsa Bay from the Girvan Distillery plus four more—Daftmill, Eden Mill, Kingsbarns and Rosebank—are currently pending their first releases

Awesome. I got my foundation now for a good Scotch selection....I may pick up a bottle of Titos to clean the drains out with. Thanks everyone.
(Just kidding about using a good American drink like Titos for that just poking fun)

I keep buying Monkey Shoulder A great budget blend. I would suggest it for anyone to try. Highland park is good also and would suggest it to get a hint of that peat if you think it’s something you may enjoy. I naturally liked the heavy peated stuff. Arbeg, laphroaig, are both heavily peated. Think leather, campfire smoke, ash, etc. I like the scotch drink better than most bourbons but there is a very wide spread of flavor profiles. Johnny walker black is another one I like and even famous grouse.
Do you want to hear him gobble, or do you want to kill him.
