I've got a close family member that's going to buy a green tractor today. Patience and negotiating skills are not his strong points. grin When he makes his mind that he wants something he tends to just go get it. He's been talking about getting a tractor for a while now....Well, last night he calls me up and tells me that he's made up his mind....He's decided to not mess around and take a chance buying an old used tractor that's just a painted up piece of junk....He said..."I'm going up here to so and so tractor dealer tomorrow (I forgot who) and I'm just gonna go ahead and get a new one about the size of yours." I have no doubt he'll be wheeling a shiny new tractor into his driveway this afternoon. I told him to just at least give me a little while to call around this morning and talk to some folks first before he just bought one from so and so's place. I may find you a better deal a couple counties over or something.

So that brings me to my thread here.....I'd really appreciate if y'all could help steer me in the right direction here on which dealership or dealerships I need to call. He lives in Marshall Co but pretty much anywhere in north Alabama would be an option. Who is known around that area for offering the best prices and such? This will be on a 30-40 HP tractor with buckets and some equipment?

Thanks in advance..... thumbup

It's not in north alabama but the best price I've found was at the JD dealer in donalsonville georgia. I was not looking at buying new though so I cant say for sure what their deals are like on new tractors.

I deal with Tri-Green in Leighton. You are about an hour away. In the last 4 years we have bought three from them. Bought a 3038 with hydro for small odds and ends, bought a 2 wheel drive 5055E and last week a 5055E 4 wheel drive. I go directly to the top and contact the owner. I simply ask what he will let me have it for and he tells me. This is the bottom line pricing from him so I take it, or leave it. If your friend calls them or visits them, see David in the sales office and tell him to call Mike directly for a no haggle price. If you will buy used you can save even more, as they have more wiggle room. He has a nice used 5065 there right now if it don't sale today your friend might be interested in.

I have known this family, and worked for them for over 40 years and they have always been straight up with folks. They will deliver and provide all your friend needs. If you need parts or service, my cousin is the maintenance foreman and is a standup fellow. If you are an Alabama fan, this may be as close to Saban as you will get.

Hope this helps.
B

One thing that gets me about all dealers is they dont have a price tag on the tractor. All equipment should have a price tag on it like automobiles. Most of the time you have to wait for a call back on price. That sort of erks me.

It be's that way sometimes.

Mr B I have a co worker getting treated like crap over a 5075E he just bought. And you think the equipment we have and influence we have on farmers they’d want to help him. But no. They don’t. I like King but when Hubert died leighton lost its main man. Ed’s a good man but his worries today aren’t focused too much on the business as they shouldn’t. He needs to enjoy life. I have certain farmers who would leave them in heartbeat if they had another option. Guys who are 2-3 million dollar buyers.

When I was shopping for a tractor and I was strongly considering a new one, the Ag-Pro in Piedmont seemed like the most direct, straight forward and honest of the bunch. Ag-Pro seems like a pretty big organization with stores all over, so I would imagine that their buying power is greater than other dealers. So my vote would be for an Ag-Pro dealer somewhere.

All Deere dealers are now huge conglomerate dealers. Coker is still independent but it ain’t gonna last much longer. With Saban buying into trigreen as a 25% owner expect trigreen to keep buying up smaller dealers. Don’t be surprised if sunsouth and TN tractor have the trigreen name within a year. It would make them the 2nd largest Deere dealers in the US

We use Snead at Reed Contracting. Trigreen no.

Reed spends a whole lot of money in these places and they only use Snead. Our shop is 1 mile away from Trigreen. We have to drive over an hour to get to snead if that tells you anything. Reeds mechanic shop spent over 17 million dollars just in parts alone 2yrs ago when i asked. There is a reason why we are next door to Trigreen and never use them of possible.

Several farmers who run JDs up here are mad at Tri-Green. The biggest is flirting with switching to red tractors but isn't convinced the support is there. Scottsboro Tri-Green is bad about not having common parts they used to stock. One of there other stores MAY have it and you gotta wait.

I hate big John Deere dealers. I wouldn't buy a new Deere if I could afford 2 of what I wanted because I don't want to be a slave to their dealers or parts counter. Nothing but a racket.

Get a Case. At least you can get parts online and a shifter knob doesn't cost $50.

Deere dealers never have parts either. I own 2 Deere tractors they ALWAYS have to order dang near everything I have ever needed...

That's a moot point from where I am sitting.

The difference is you have to actually go to the Deere dealer and watch the guy at the parts counter act stupid for 30 minutes to get it ordered.

I do it about once every couple weeks. There is nothing worse to deal with.

Maybe they stock all the parts for the E series because they turn over the inventory about 1 once a week? I don't know.

Friend of mine hit a guy wire head with a 12 row corn head Monday. Gave Deere the serial number on the head and they still overnighted the wrong gearbox for that model head. Plain stupidity
