Got a 2008 mx5200 gear, FEL 4x4, very pleased with mine,. I say pick your poison HST/GEAR can't go wrong with either. I will also add with a FEL and bush hog it's a long tractor Like 20’+

Got a 2008 mx5200 gear, FEL 4x4, very pleased with mine,. I say pick your poison HST/GEAR can't go wrong with either. I will also add with a FEL and bush hog it's a long tractor Like 20’+ Well I bought a 30 ft deck over gooseneck trailer back in may so the length really isn't an issue for the type tractors I'm looking at. When yall say that there's some power lost when going with the HST how much horsepower is actually being lost?

Not a game changer. 10-4 I figured it couldn't be very much but wasn't sure since I talked with a friend of mine yesterday and when I mentioned getting a HST tractor he told me that was a big mistake due to the horsepower I'd be losing and didnt really have anything to go off of other than what he told me. dead_eye if I'm not mistaken the MX series with HST comes with cruise but I think that on some of the smaller tractors you are right they do not come standard with cruise control and it has to be added if wanted. It is definently a tough decision for sure because I really like the m6060 with all of the features ,how everything is layed out, the stance of it and that it looks to be built very well. On the other hand I like that the MX5200 is a little less money, brand new and can fit in more places.

Fitting in more places is a misconception. Get the biggest machine you can afford. I turned under about a 1/4 acre (at most) plot the other day with a 150hp tractor with duals. In the middle of pines that need to be thinned. Tight doesn't describe. The good news is..... I think I was done in 10 minutes. And it was a geared machine too  Holy ALDeer!
No government employees were harmed in the making of this mess.

IF I ever have to buy another tractor in this life I can assure you that it will have a cab just as my Kubota L3430 HST does. Regardless of HP or type of drivetrain, a cab with AC is priceless!

I’ve been known to use a 375hp John Deere with a 35’ disc to work some plots. Makes quick work of it.

I had a MX5100 HST. It is about the biggest Kubota you can trailer with an 1/2 ton truck. It was a great tractor, plenty of power, strong loader, ran it for 8+ hours routinely and never had issues bush hogging/disking. IF you have to trailer the tractor, get it. If you don’t I would go with the bigger tractor. I went down to a 35hp tractor (compact) and use the exact implements, bush hog and disk and zero regrets. BUT, if I lived on my land and this was my full time tractor... I’d go bigger fore sure. Trailering it really isn't a problem but will have to be done regardless of what I get since I have 60 acres at one location and 80 at another. Scrape, why is it that a finish mower will overheat the HST and eat up power?

I haven't put much time in the seat of a tractor, but our Mahindra 6110 has an AC cab and I wouldn't want it any different. It was nice yesterday. I drove our Backhoe yesterday and the AC isn't working...I really need to find time to fix it.

Our 23 HP has never moved the heat hand with the belly mower, whether clearing or mowing, including a few 9 hour days. 2400 RPM, easing along as fast as I can when mowing. Heat hand moves until the regular point, then is stable.
