What’s the least amount of shells you’ve ever used to kill a limit of 15? IMO 3 shells per dove is doing pretty good. It took me 49 to kill my limit Saturday, and I felt like I was shooting pretty good!

I think you mean "shells per dove" laugh At least for me.

2 boxes for a limit isn't bad. Shells are cheap anyway.

Killed a lot of limits with a box of shells. Those days usually involved a dead tree and doves slowing down to land. Shooting good under normal conditions will use 2 boxes. Normal is a limit in 2 1/2 to 3 boxes. Shooting poorly or high birds and 4 boxes are needed.

Never got more detailed than that. Once the box gets dumped into the game pouch, I am too busy to count shells.

Not sure how true it is or where they got the info but I read one time that an it take a hunter an average of 6 shots per bird. I shot doves last year for the first time in a long while. At first I sucked. Took me 18 shots to kill the first bird. By the time the birds left I was back in the swing of it and constantly pulling doubles with the citori.

best day was 12 shots/12 birds. Limit was 12 then.

watched my dad kill 12 straight on afternoon many many years ago. Watched an old black man on a Greene Co shoot kill 12 for 12 with a 16 ga single shot. He missed one and killed two with one shot!!!!

day in day out I could kill a limit out of a box of shells or less.

Best was probably 15 with 18-19 shots. Typical is a limit with a box to a box and a half, depending on how picky I am with my shots. 20 guage, 1oz 8's, imp cyl most of the time or maybe a mod if they are flying high. If there's a decent number of birds and they are flying good and I'm careful and don't take a bunch of 45 yd shots, I can generally limit out with a box. If they are not there in good numbers or not flying good, I wont be nearly as picky on my shots and my average/dove goes up.

28 shells Saturday.

Back when I could see well usually one shot per bird but I would wait for.good shots. Most always a couple or three doubles and sometimes a triple.
Haven't shot at a dove in at least 5 years. Even when I have a shoot at the house I usually just keep my gun handy and kill the ones that fly over the barn/shop.

I take 2 boxes just in case the shoot is crappy and I have to sky bust a few.

I'll give some of y'all a tip.... if you shoot #6 and hit the bird it will typically go down. I don't feel like #8's carry nearly enough energy unless the birds are all close. The cheaper the shells the more I have to shoot..... some of the cheapo Federal shells I feel like I'm throwing a hand full of sand at them.

In Argentina I killed 157 without a miss my last day there. Killed almost 1,100 that day. But, normal Alabama shooting, the best I think I've ever done was 30 shots for 15 birds. Usually it takes me 2 boxes.

I've never been that good on doves. Was pretty good at trap and sporting clays at one time. I think Argentina would give me enough practice. It is on my bucket list! Best I ever saw them fly here I was by myself two weeks after opening day. They started flying between two dead trees four and five at a time. Like every five minutes. Think I got two out of two boxes. They weren't even that high but real fast and swerving.
