With the news that the idiot shooter in Texas bought his AR in a private sale, the call for universal background checks is ramping up.

This time, it may be different.

I have bought and sold several firearms over the years (legally, all of them) in private sales- one just recently. My argument to those who have been screaming about universal background checks as a way to "do something" was that they would not have prevented a single one of the mass shootings in recent years. You know the stories of those shooters and how they managed to get their weapons, I won't recount them here.

But what now? I don't like it- not at all.

It may be the best we can hope for is if/when the universal checks become law, they do as the Lt. Governor of Texas has said-- to have exceptions to allow guns to be exchanged and passed down between family members. But it all depends on how the laws are written. If you have read the Assault Weapons Ban of 2019, you know what a huge overreach that is- scores of firearms are defined as "assault weapons" based on how they look or what kind of stock they may have.

I would not expect this to be any different, but it has a much better chance of becoming law now.

Trump has already alluded to "strengthening" background checks.

What's the next move?

Dangerous times that we are living in. Physically, culturally and legally.

I firmly believe that a double gallows should be constructed on the East Lawn of The White House. Politicians who willfully and shamelessly violate their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America should be swiftly tried and, upon conviction, publicly hanged at sunup the day after conviction. If multiple convicts are to be hanged they can choose with whom to share the gallows or names shall be drawn from the hangman's hat to be hanged 2 at a time.

The anti gunners say "if we just pass another law, it will prevent a killing". The flaw is, if someone is going to break the ultimate law of killing someone, breaking that first law of getting a gun is not going to stop them. The die hard anti's know this, but they also know it's just a small increment to their ultimate goal of a complete ban of guns. A little at a time and after a while the last rational will be, if there was a law to not have guns, then there would be no killings. They know that won't prevent the ones you are dead set on breaking laws from just breaking the law of possession, but it will lesson the number of guns in the hands of lawful people.
That is the ultimate goal. They all know it they just don't want you to hear them say it. You have anti's who are government controllers and anti's who are just pasifists . The pacifists are dumb enough to think love can stop hate and crime and the government controllers don't want the average citizen to have a way to stop an all controlling government.

What you do today, you have to sleep with tonight.

The problem with "universal background checks" is they're only enforceable with a gun registration.

They could easily have a free # anyone could call to check somebody out before you sell them a gun. No FFL needed and no serial # or even type of gun, but I'm sure that's not what they want. They'll want you to go to an FFL and pay them $25 to do a 4473 on the buyer. Then they'll say, how do we know a background check has been done without a registration.

They want a total ban on guns. All this talk of nit-picking this ammo, this barrel length, these mags, etc. will never satisfy them. They want guns completely removed, single shot pistols, .22s, shotguns, pistols, all of them. Do not let this "well what if we just changed a couple more rules" fool you for a second.

There is a 100% chance that background checks will be required on all sales soon. I bet nearly every Republican will cave on this one, too.

I’ve seen a quite a few of your posts saying you don’t have any evil firearms. It’s starting to make me think that’s not true, but how would I know, I’ve never touched one of things.

How about this since the left loves diversity politics we do this:

Set a # of shooting per 100,000 people limit and we divide people out in the following way: (Any group above that limit has to go through an FFL dealer)
1) Race
2) Sex
3) Sexual Orientation
4) Age

For instance:
A 0-100yr old Straight Black Woman = can buy a firearm because her score is < the limit
A ________ ________ ________ _______ = can NOT buy a firearm except through a background check because their score is > the limit

A CCW overrides all of these limitation.

Use the "we can't discriminate against women since men do most of the shooting" argument to make the left twist themselves into a knot.

Make the BATFdatabase open to everyone. Buyer and seller enter information into the system get a Approved or Denied response. No need to visit FFL and pay them $50.

On the bright side universal background checks, walmart not selling ammo, Dicks not selling Guns will be great for local gun stores. Ive had to pass a background check for probably 80% of the guns I used to own before the burglary anyway. You think this law will be enforceable? I mean we already have laws against straw purchases that never get enforced thats how alot of felons end up with a pistol their girlfriend just buys it for them. so if universal checks pass ill have to keep a record of every gun I buy or sell like an FFL holder does? It wont do anything except make the liberals scream louder that we need more laws because the ones we have arent working. I remember walking in Walmart as a kid with my dad and picking out my first .22 he paid cash and flashed his DL like he was buying a pack of cigarettes and walked out with it. times are definitely changing.

Just a theoretical question: I understand the notion of having guns and claiming you don't and I am not commenting on that. But, what value will they be when the inevitable day comes that mandatory gun registration is required. You will be at risk for felony charges if your possession of such a non declared gun was ever discovered. You certainly would be putting yourself at great risk if you ever took it hunting. Just putting this out there so the impacts of new gun control laws are understood.

I generally ask anti's that I meet exactly how many new laws they believe it will take to solve the supposed problem.

They generally respond with a low number, then I remind them that the muslim shooter in CA a few years back broke 48 individual gun laws before he ever shot anyone.

Evil is evil, and no amount of new laws will stop that.
