I figure I pay my tolls for the year every March when my tags have to be renewed and April when Income taxes are paid. Officially, however, I think it is more of a local issue and since the locals seem to be overwhelmingly against it, I am too.

Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

Part of the plan is to also toll the wallace tunnel. For the next 55 years!

No one has yet to complain that part of the new gas tax is being used to widen and deepen the Mobile ship channel. A road which 100% of us will never drive on.

Add to this, most anytime there is a backup on I10 east(weekend beach traffic for example) cars shift to Government St and the Bankhead tunnel. It can take over an hour to go the mile from Broad St to the tunnel just to get on the causeway. “Free” route number one will probably stay backed up to the Loop. Option 2 is up I165 to the Cochran/Africatown bridge and back down to the causeway. Adding 15 miles and 30 minutes in an otherwise lateral move to get to the same place. The causeway isn’t designed for the traffic that will be on it constantly, and the businesses there will likely suffer since few people want to leave at noon to have a seafood dinner at 4 when the place is only 6 miles away.
The third option is to drive I65 up to Bay Minette and back down. I think that’s about a 55 mile detour around an 11 mile bridge.

Heard a Baldwin County official of some sort talking to another man the other day. Said they planned to toll the new road they're building to extend the Beach Express all the way to I-65. Said they had the money to buy the right of ways but not to build the road. He claimed they would be tolling much of any new road construction going forward. I guess they're thinking they can turn Baldwin County into Orlando.

I can understand that toll. But tolling the Eisenhower Interstate system doesn’t make any sense at all as all of us know. My question to ALDOT is that when the military moves equipment which that’s why the system was built in the first place will the government pay a toll?

Mobile does have a bottle neck for people traveling across the country that is dang near impossible to get around, especially for the ones that don't know any kind of short cuts around it. If they build the toll booths/road it will be a strong armed politician money maker that won't go away.

I mentioned this some time ago,,,, If any of you here are on face book please go to the face book page " Block the Mobile Bay Way Toll " ,,,we now have over 53,000 members in just under three months,,, more joining us each day,,, you don't have to be from Alabama to join or have a say,,,,,, if not you, maybe your wives or girl fiends or Moms and Dads,, brothers and sisters,,, Aunts and Uncles and friends, let them know about the group,, tell how you feel about our Governor , the legislature and involved state agencies (ALDOT) already having made their minds up about placing a toll on the Mobile bay way bridge project and tolling the Wallace tunnel too,, no bad language or threats please....we've been fighting this for all of Alabama and adjoining states,,, if you want to see this toll killed and get the bridge built with Federal funding join us please ,, our sheer numbers have scared the snot out of Gov Ivy and our legislature ,,,we're a large enough group to put them all out of a job when we vote.. that includes mayors of Mobile and all the smaller cities and towns along Baldwin county. This has gained national attention and the more people that join us the chances increase exponentially of stopping the toll scheme scam.

We just recently got the powers that be in Mobile to vote to halt the project until the governors meeting on October 7th , now we wait for the Baldwin county side to get their leaders to do the same. We've got city councils in Mobile county to make resolutions voting no on any kind of proposal to place a toll on this new bridge or any existing road , highway or interstate or bridge.

You'll be welcomed ,,,,Do some reading into the news feed and chime in where you see fit,, you may even run into family and friends already joined up. This is not just your bank accounts future if this toll ends up being enforced , its' your families and friends too,,, 50 years of toll collecting by privateers will amount to Billions of dollars collected to pay for it and millions upon millions as profit. . Your kids future depends on what you do today. Join us.

I have a bit of a different opinion on this. I travel to Houston quite a bit.

They have financed their expansions of the highway system through tolls, and they have the best road system of any big city I have ever been in.

I would vote for toll roads in a heartbeat to address the monumental traffic issues in Atlanta.

What I'm saying is....we currently have 4 lanes of traffic each way to cross. That's enough.
And SCREW THE BRIDGE if tolled. It's Federal Hwy., Let the Feds pay for it.
I am quite familiar with the various routes.
