Any of y'all have episodes of sleepwalking? My 34 year old son has had on and off episodes since he was a teen but lately he's doing it pretty regular. Any ideas on the causes/triggers?

Could be triggered by Stress.

Oh the story’s I have of sleep walking!! Wish I knew what caused it! My grandfather did it too.

Ambien?

Stress and like Cal said, Ambien if he takes it can cause sleepwalking. I take Ambien at times and sometimes I get up a sleepwalk to the fridge and open it and sleep eat. Seriously, I'll eat late night snacks and have no recollection of it the next day.

I almost posted about this the other day.

I was nearly asleep the other night, laying on my side facing the hallway, and I saw something streak down the hall. I heard the patter of running footsteps and an almost possessed sounding evil laugh. I jumped straight up but it took me a second to get my bearings about me. It came back by and I realized it was my youngest son, who’s 4.

When I got there, he was standing and laughing in his bedroom. I walked right to him but he never acknowledged me. I picked him up and took to my bed to lay him down but he just sat up laughing. My wife talked to him till he just laid down. I don’t think he ever woke up and says he doesn’t remember any of it.

That would freak me slap out! I would’ve called a priest!

If I get a little buzzed..... I’m gonna sleep walk! Usually piss on something. Idk why. Lots of times when I haven’t even had a beer I will go to sleep in the bed and wake up on the couch.

One of my boys used to do it when he was little, about 5. He would walk in the room and just stare at us. Sometimes he’d talk gibberish too. Many a time I’ve opened my eyes to him standing there. Would always scare the crap out of me. Once he walked in our bedroom while we were still awake, talking gibberish, then said, “we’re all going to die”. I won’t lie, that freaked me out. I guess he was dreaming some crazy mess. Thankfully he hasn’t done that in years.

I would wake up at night and hear someone walking through the house and talking. I got up to check and it was my son when he was about 5. I would wake him up then put him back to bed. We realized that video games seemed to be a trigger.

We give our kids melatonin. Never had an issue.

Yeah lmao. My oldest son had a few high fevers when he was around 6 and he had me so freaked out i was getting goosebumps 😲🤣

When my sister was young, like early elementary, she got up from bed one night and took her pillow and went and got in the bathtub and went to sleep. She had no recollection of having done it and my parents did not know until Mom found her in there that morning. Another time, while my parents were still awake, she got out of bed and sleepwalked to the door going out to the garage door and Mom turned her around and I don't remember if she woke up then or not. But it was strange at the time. If she did it other times I do not recall or was not told about it. I don't think my parents ever knew what caused it, but I do remember that the pediatrician said that as long as she was not endangering herself to leave her alone and try not to wake her up.

What's the thoughts behind not waking them up?

back when my brother & I were in 4th-5th grade Dad left for work at 5:30 and Mom didn't get home from her 3rd shift job till about 6:30 to get us up and ready for school. one morning when mom got home my brother was running circles around the house like a wild Indian, Mom asks him whats wrong and he tells her theres a man chasing him AND me. I'm nowhere in sight, mom came to check on me in bedroom, I'm sound asleep. little brother got to stay out of school the next day to "go to the doctor".

He takes melatonin but that’s all. I remember walking in my sleep once when I was about 10 years old.

My dad and my uncle said one night when the two of them were up late watching TV and talking that I came walking into the den in my PJs with a glass of water. I was about 6 or 7 and had gone to bed many hours before that. They said I handed the glass to my uncle and said "here ya go" then turned around and went back to bed. They looked at each other and said what the hell was that? I did not remember it at all the next morning and would never have known if they had not told me.

Ditto here I also drink a small cup milk or eat a piece of cheese. Very odd.

My boy sleep walks and every time he does he is peeing and it aint in the toilet! I slept walk a whole lot up to I was about 25 or so.
