Never off Canaveral, plenty of times in the keys and in the gulf. They are some of my favorite fish to catch and eat. Caught a bunch earlier this summer out of Clearwater on really light spin gear(3500 size, braided line is a game changer!) on live shrimp in about 60 feet of water.

my youngest brother hooked a three pound mangrove snapper in the Keys. As he reached to lip it my mind was saying nnoooooooooooooo! But too late, he instantly learned why you do not put any part of yer body that you like near a snappers mouth.

I did that the first time I caught a speckled trout. Never had been. About the time my buddy said "Don't lip it, Big Al!" I felt that sting. You learn quickly and never forget.

I also once wanted to see what a sheepshead bite was like so I stuck the knuckle of my thumb in there. Do. Not. Do. This.

I did. I even saw the teeth.

I'm stupid. It hurt. Definitely left a mark.

Had a Mangrove swallow the hook one time. Grabbed him like a big ole Bream
and reached down to bite the line with my mouf. Oh Dear Lord that thing almost
took my lip off. I've bled less in fist fights. Do not trust em. They are vindictive.

You better throw that back on the grill before it swims off, nasty.
