In Jasper? Seems too far north Satsumas are pretty cold tolerant. With a little protection during the super cold nights, it should be fine.

I’d plant a few blueberry bushes as they seem to get by ok with a little neglect and unless you feel like pruning, thinning and spraying every year I wouldn’t bother with peaches or apples.

Satsumas can survive temps as low as 12 degrees. Mine has survived a 14 degree night and many nights of high teens plus an ice storm. The leaves shed pretty heavy after the ice storm but it was fine.

The most likely to succeed is pear, almost certainly. They grow like weeds. I’d go with Bartlett for eating, Kieffer for deer. we had a Bartlett pear tree in our backyard in SE Alabama that got huge - if you plant one, cut it back to keep it "dwarf" sized ... but no doubt, they're very good eating pears ... my paw-paw had a walk-thru muscadine "arbor" made out of chicken wire ... i remember as a kid riding thru it on my bike & eating them inside of it in the late afternoons ... he also had a massive fig tree next to his carport ...
