What actually matters is the glycemic scale and insulin reaction. Both those act very much like straight sugar in your body. If I wanted to reduce the harm and still eat those high glycemic foods, I would only eat them once a day at most and along with good low glycemic foods.

Congrats RH. Since my heart attack I'm April, I'm down 36 pounds. It has taken some doing, but I feel a whole lot better than I have in years. When I first started trying to lose the weight, I thought I was just on a diet. After the first couple of weeks I decided that it wasn't a diet, it was a lifestyle change. Most of the foods that I used to eat I don't even miss anymore.

What you do today, you have to sleep with tonight.

Congratulations, loosing 150lbs is a big accomplishment.

May I ask if you still trying to drop weight or are in maintain mode? The reaason I ask is that I did low carb several years back, and lost weight, but couldn’t maintain it. I was either gaining or loosing, and gaining won.

That is awesome!!

I think if more people could stick it out long enough to realize they felt better, there would be more people willing to stick with it as a lifestyle change, but change is hard for lots of people. And, eating is a very social thing for lots of people, which makes it hard to stick to a strict plan.

I've sort of reached the point where body weight doesn't matter too much to me. I never thought I would get this light. Right now,I just eat right and exercise and whatever happens happens. I still have some fat, though I think of it more like a body builder would think of fat than the average american would think of fat. I can see the lines of my stomach muscles but I said when I started I wanted a stomach like Jason Stathem on that Meg movie. I figured I could do it too when I saw he was my age.

My diet now is my diet as in a definition that simply consists of the foods I eat. I am no longer on a "diet" as in something you start and stop. The way I ate before was killing me. Why would I want to get healthy and then go back to doing what was killing me?

Yea,you got to get intense and extreme if you want to do anything extreme. I've about drove everybody crazy talking about diet and exercise. I've spent hours researching and watching inspiring videos of awesome people. Just ask me about diet somewhere and I get started like I was the new straight Richard Simmons.

Nobody will encourage you but you.Nothing worth doing is ever easy.

I don't eat junk now because I buy all the groceries and I don't EVER buy junk. My wife in on board and has lost 40 lbs in 5 months. My kids think they are starving. They will eat good healthy foods or not at all in my house now. I won't buy that poison now that I have educated myself as to what it really is and what it does to our bodies.

What kind of exercise do you do? Do you go to a gym or ride a bike, run, etc?

When you say no grains I'm assuming all breads are gone? I started back on an intermittent fasting diet 2 weeks ago, but I've still been eating whatever I want when I do eat and i dont exercise. That's all gonna change starting tomorrow but knowing what to eat and what not to is mind boggling to me.

This diet is so simple is the main reason I do it. I really got it from the Lord. No grain does mean no bread in any form . Just get creative and you can eat very well. I eat all kinds of meat, fish, eggs, cheese, low carb 7 grams per cup yogurt, blueberries, strawberries, blackberries,

Kale, spinach, cauliflower, cabbage, brussel sprouts, onions, mushrooms, broccoli, peppers, avocado, and turnip greens. You want to eat as many of these vegetables as close to raw as you can. Anything green, just think "eat green, go lean."

The knowing what to and what not to eat had been my struggle also. If you go by carbs, that cuts out most all fruits because the natural sugars raise the carb level. Add to that some fruits can't be easily taken to work in their natural form ( pineapple, pears) so you look into the packaged fruits and the carbs are high. How are you guys handling these type of situitations? Of the "greens" RH listed above, 6 of those I can't stand so I struggle with finding what's "good".

You can't just go by one though.you sort of have to look at as much new information as possible and sort out what is sensible and seems right for you.

Where's the before and after pics? Congrats. That weight loss is impressive but so is the fact that you can exercise without every joint in your body aching. Especially carrying around all of that extra weight for those years.

Yea,I did about 10 miles today. Me and my boy was about 5 miles back in the Forrest on some horse trails just a few days ago. If I had tried to get on this bike a year ago I would have had it permanently stuck up my fat ass. That's why I'm so much on here preaching to you guys.
