My lawn is 1/2 acre or less. It’s st Augustine grass with quite a few areas that have gotten overtaken by weeds. Looks to be chickgrass, carpetweed, chamberbitter, lespedeza and quite a bit of cudweed. I lightly fertilized (about 1/2 of what was recommended) 34-0-0 a week or so ago. Would y’all recommend using any specific weed killer at this time?

Find a fertilome dealer near you and get on their program. its mostly pre emergents but after 2 yrs of it you yard will look amazing. I used all the weed and feed, and weed killers etc for about 5 yrs and it was a waste for me. Fertilome program was much more effective.

Following. I've used this before, but not sure how much it has helped. It's not hurt the St. Augustine though. I've had bigger priorities in life the last few years than weeds, but tried to get a little better control over them this year. Only so-so success.

What do you mean by "get on their program?" Do you mean use their products rather than the other weed and feed options?

its every other month yr round you put out their granules. Its different mixes for different months... Say for example. the bag you put out in jan or feb is preventing the march april weeds. the march bag ya out out is for the june july weeds. Their program isnt to kill weeds already there. its to stop them from coming up at all. They will have to tell you which mix to use depending on what type of grass you have.

This works. Its a pre emergent program. The weed n feed stuff from the big box stores is crap compared to Fertilome. Start it and stay on it.

I did not on mine. If you get with one of the good dealer they will send out a person to evaluate the lawn for free and tell you the options. I just chose to let winter kill mine and go from there when I was on the program.

Fertilize your lawn with high nitrogen. The grass will overcome the weeds.
Don't cut too low. Keep your mower deck above 2.5" so it doesn't stress the lawn grass.

its been at least 10 yrs since i was on the program but for 1/2 acre lawn iirc it was one 40# bag and the bags averaged around $22. It was cheap enough that me the tightwad did it

Classic Gardens in Bham has a newsletter that will inform you what to put out each month. St Augustine fertilizer is different from what you use on Bermuda.
