The Apollo 11 astronauts launched from Cape Kennedy headed to the moon. On July 16, 1969, I was ten years old living in base housing at Patrick AFB in Satellite Beach, Florida. My dad was a communications specialist in the Air Force and was TDY downrange at one of the many tracking stations used for the launch. My two younger brothers and I watched the launch from our front yard. Our house was 20 miles away from the launch pad but the Saturn 5 rocket was so powerful it rattled our windows.
I read where it took over 400,000 people working together to make the mission a success. Makes me proud to be an American. flag

Been reading NASA moon stories all week and got to talk to 81 yr old guy who helped work on the Saturn V design.
Proud moment for America.
Damn shame we have to hitch a ride to the ISS these days.

I grew up in Titusville, FL and was there during the entire Apollo program. My father was an engineer that worked on the 2nd Stage Booster and was one of the engineers that manned the telemetry bunkers near the launch site during the launches. Our family was able to watch many of the launches out on Cape Kennedy - it was AWESOME! My most vivid memories were the night launches that lit the place up like daytime for ~40 seconds. I will never forget the unbelievable sound and how it vibrated every bone in your body when those Saturn V's were lit off. The patriotism and national pride during that time were something else - seemed like nearly the whole nation was captivated. We were a proud America during much of those times...

When the Saturn V engines were tested at NASA on RSA they rattled the windows in our house on Georgia Mountain. Growing up during the Space Age/Space Race was a great time to be a kid in this part of Alabama.

I firmly believe that a double gallows should be constructed on the East Lawn of The White House. Politicians who willfully and shamelessly violate their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America should be swiftly tried and, upon conviction, publicly hanged at sunup the day after conviction. If multiple convicts are to be hanged they can choose with whom to share the gallows or names shall be drawn from the hangman's hat to be hanged 2 at a time.

I remember the night launches. Even from our house, it lit up the sky as if it was broad daylight.
