I really don’t care to get in the ocean or any freshwater after the news the past few weeks

Something ain’t just right about this story.
If I’m not mistaken, Vibrio don’t live in freshwater. Now he got the flesh eating virus but it’s not the same thing as what’s happening at the gulf. And I’m just wondering if the Tennessee River is truly to blame. Just thinking out loud here. The doctors didn’t really seem to connect the dots between the river and what happened to this poor man.

That’s troublesome

"fraid they do:

“The bacteria themselves are very common. We encounter them every day,” Amy Kirby, an assistant research professor at Emory University’s Center for Global Safe Water, said in an interview on “A Closer Look.”

The flesh-eating bacteria can live in shallow, murky, warm fresh water or in the ocean.

“You really find them associated with warm water,” Kirby said.

Vibrio vulnificus is a bacterium found in salt or brackish water. Cases of this strain of flesh-eating bacteria have been consistently higher in Florida since 2008, according to data from the Florida Department of Health. In 2014, there were 32 confirmed cases of vibrio vulnificus compared to 16 confirmed cases seven years earlier.

About 40 percent of vibrio vulnificus cases are fatal, according to the CDC. While you can get this particular strain of bacteria from swimming in the ocean with a cut or sore, the most common way of getting the illness is by eating raw or undercooked oysters or handling marine life.

Waterloo from what FB users are saying.

Also seen an article saying it may be transmitted by mosquitoes.

Ecoli and staph might survive in “fresh” water

Fresh being loosely associated with any water absent of salt.

Jesus......flesh eating bacteria at the beach, in the river.....really tired of reading this when we're supposed to leave for the beach in 8 days.

It lives in the mud at the bottom of the rivers and lakes. If I was to swim in a fresh body of water this time of year I'd be floating on something, drinking a cold one, and not going crazy swimming up down and all around stirring up that bullsh.

Everyone that dies from vibrio has a compromised immune system. If you have one, don’t swim, it’s simple.
