I’ve got s big Warrior Cat rod I need to put a reel on. I think I’m going with heavy mono. Pro catfish man told me braid and rocks don’t mix.
Most guys run a 50lb mono leader for that purpose.

Thanks for the info BBB.
AC I’m going to use mono on any new reels I get. The big catfish I hooked last week sawed the braid off. I never turned the fish but I think I could have if I had mono. I just don’t know how big to get. I’ve got 50# that I use for leaders but I don’t know if that’s big enough.

Thanks for all the replies. I’ll look into the Tiger rods. Never heard of them but I’m new to all this. I hate a dang slimy catfish. I have no plans to fish for eating sized fish, all I plan to do is trophy “hunt” Let me know if you want company. I could tag along with my boat. I'm trying to talk my self into going for the big boys either Friday or Saturday night.

If you're going to be catfishing below dams go ahead and get a 7000 with 80# power pro paired with a tiger rod . Don't carry a knife to a gun fight You just described my go-to big cat rig to a T. I bought mine from a member on here! I know I crossed the eyes on every shark I hooked with it last year fishing off the State Pier.

TN, I’m going on a day trip Friday. Gonna fish mid day. My son is going with me.
I’d like to catch some bream to fish with too

Jonathan Herndon is my catfish pal. He put me on the 80 pounder a few years ago. Then last year he gave me the rod.

Just hit my pal Herndon on line selection. This was his response::
Bill Dance put me on that Hi-seas grand slam mono. Any color will work. 40lb mono will catch anything that swims in the river with your drag set right. Berkley big game is my other go to with same poundage and any color. Thanks

I have two of the Rover models that look basically like an Abu Garcia. I have had zero problems with them over the last year. Seem very solid and even have metal gears internally in a couple places that the Abu Garcia has plastic ones. I have heard it said that they don't have as much drag as a Abu Garcia but it's never been a problem for me. If I had need for more drag it's pretty easy to upper grade the drag washers on these type reels.

They’ll be good reels. Y’all over thinking this stuff, I caught a 47lb blue on 12 lb test and a 52lber on 20 lb test. Just plain ole Big Game mono, and then cheap $25 pier set ups from Walmart. Worked fine, just set your drag and get after em. Ain’t gotta have all that high dollar line for that stuff. I grew up bumping bottom below Gville Dam, never used over a 6’6” medium rod and 10 lb test. Caught a boat full of 20-30lb fish on that set up. Thurman Hubbard “‘my great uncle” would roll over in his grave I’d he knew I used 20 lb line with a 8’ pole. Lol
A friend, the Bible and a banker will get you though about anything.

I usually just rig a long mono leader for that reason.
