Unfortunately Outback is correct. It is in a pretty awful part of town. Lot's of houses that used to be gorgeous in that area are in awful states of disrepair, junk all over the yards. Its a shame

They'll probably have to give it away.

Probably right. The real estate market in Selma is pretty bad. Lot's of houses for sale. Lot's of people needing a place to live, but couldn't get financed for a pack of gum. That's why the rental market is crazy. Folks paying $1000 a month for a 1200 sq ft shed.

They could get $500,000 If it was in Shelby county. You would need armed guards and German Shepards patrolling the grounds in that part of Selma, though.

Great house, horrible neighborhood. It is the Henry House of Henry Brick Co. fame. It sits two blocks off of hwy 80 by Edgewood Elementary school. Now it would be great if you could buy it and the other 20 or so houses on the cull-de sac and raze them. Actually, there are a couple of decent people that still live in them because they own them. The rest are rentals that no one takes care of.

Troy, is it Sheila or her sister that passed away a few years back? One was and artist and the other taught at the Jr. College as I recall. I was behind one of them one morning and she got through eating her biscuit from Hardees and rolled her window down and just dropped the whole bag, wrapper, cup and all out the window. Of course I hit the Blue lights and she acted like I had offender her by telling her that either she picked it up or was getting a ticket. She said the city had people to take care of that. She also reminded me that she was good friends with The mayor at the time. Beotch was crazy as a run over dog. One of the few Littering tickets I wrote when I was full time.

Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

Sheila was the artist, and passed a few years ago. There are a couple of dog themed pieces in my clinic that she did a LONG time ago. My aunt was close friends with her, and I recall going to her place when I was younger.

It's a shame that downtown Selma has become a jungle wasteland. There's absolutely beautiful plantation homes all over the area. But I'd rather live in Somalia.

You'd have to do like Larry Striplin did and buy a whole block all four sides when he bought the Henderson House. He then renovated all the houses and had a say so in who his neighbors were.

David, it was Shelia that was the artist, she passed away from cancer several years ago. She was a VERY talented artist. I have several of her original paintings and a couple of limited prints. She was also very much a character and I can see her telling you that. LOL.RIP.

Not to derail, but there are so many beautiful, historical homes going to waste in the area. One in particular that was featured in the "This Old House" Magazine a few years ago was the Weaver House in the "Save This Old House" magazine feature. Apparently someone did purchase it, but it too, is in a very questionable area of town.

Sheila was good friends with my dad. She used to take me to church when I was really little. Didn't even know she died.

Why? You've still got to drive around, eat, go to church, shop etc.

You could live in a big walled compound like the wealthy used to in South Africa with razor wire and full time guards. WHY? Why subject yourself and your family to lack of decent public schools, a dearth of decent restaurants, crime, drugs, the list goes on and on.

I understand people like the Carmichael's, with a sand and gravel family business that you can't just pick up and move (Henry Brick the same). For someone like yourself Jawbone I cannot fathom why you're still there.

If it's on the historic register you will be required to keep it up to the historical society standards. The upkeep would cost you a small fortune and I'm would bet that's the reason the price is so low.

No the price is low because VERY FEW are willing to live there. VERY small market for that house.
