I've been thinking about upgrading to a larger more powerful truck and the mid-2000 model Nissan Titans are some of the trucks I'm considering.

I know all the normal stuff to look for when buying a used vehicle, but are there any known major issues with these particular trucks that I should be aware of if I'm considering buying one?

Believe some of those years had some rear end problems.

Have a 2011 that has nearly 200k.
Not an issue with it.

I put a 180K on a 2005 Titan with zero issues. Sold it in 2014 and got a 2014 model. Zero issues out of this one.

I had an 06. The only problem I had was replacing the rear ended 3 times.
If I recall correctly they finally figured out the the seals were the problem and fixed the issue.

I drive an '04 and the only "common" problem I have ever heard about is the leaking rear axle seals. I haven't had any issues with mine, though.

camp pres works at Nissan and had one of the first generations (and drives a current model, now). had the rear end issue. also had an exhaust manifold tick/leak. a plant mechanic told him tick wouldn’t hurt anything to leave it alone, because it would be an expensive fix...if the fix worked. another buddy had one that had the cat converters replaced, which were off of the headers instead of exhaust pipes...another expensive periodic maintenance item.

other than those issues, everybody that drives them say they run like a scalded dog!!

I had an 05 that had a "knocking" sound in the rear end if I took off to hard. I traded it once I learned those trucks had rear end problems. Bought the truck with 19K on it and got rid of it at 23K. Buddy had an 08 4x4 and his front end (transaxle?) locked up on him on the right side and had to have the truck towed. It was repaired under warranty at the time though

I've got an '08. Best truck I've ever owned. Changed pinion seal, and one front wheel bearing. Gets 14.5-15.5 mpg all around. A/C will freeze you out of there. You wont be disappointed.
