I remember the crying Indian keep Ameria clean commercials. PSA Keep America CleanI remember gas was around .25 cents/gal. No seat belts. Huge county fairs. Hi beam on left floorboard. I learned to drive a 5-speed Toyota of my neighbors 30 minutes before taking my drivers test. No airbags in cars. Smoking was encouraged. You could smoke ON a plane. Walking to and from school alone. Playing outside all day unsupervised. Jarts, bb guns, cap guns. When you got in trouble and had to wait for dad to get home and "explain it to to you" Ah, those were the good years for sure. Todays kids sure miss out on the experience of living their youth. It's all VR and games.

And the dim/bright switch was on the floorboard to the left. The way it should be.

My first tabaco was RJ Gold in a plug and Chattanooga Chew. I liked both of those. I remember when Beech Nut came out with wintergreen. Two pouches - red and green. Was tough to beat Red Man or Levi Garrett, though. Mine was Taylor’s Pride. My mom used to buy it for me when I was 12. If I gave one of my kids tobacco when they were 12, my mom would beat my ass. Remember when Hawken came out?

I remember:
Gas wars in Cahaba Heights, between the Sinclair Station, the Gulf Station and the Enco Station. Momma filling up at the Sinclair station in her Buick Electra 225 and I would get a free little wax/plastic dinosaur. I remember a couple of them melting in the hot Alabama sun on the back package shelf while she wen shopping at Loveman's downtown, and me getting my ass beat for leaving them there. I remember going fishing with my granddad at Lake Guntersville in his truck camper with my brother and "Pawpaw" not stopping for gas that was 26 cants a gallon, because :By God, that's just to expensive!" I remember making pizzas at Jim Davenport's Pizza Palace when I was 16. I remember pumping gas at the Citgo at the corner of Green Valley Road and Crosshaven Drive in Cahaba Heights and checking all the fluid levels in little old lady's and young girl's cars. I would check the oil, check the tires, check the coolant, the whole nine yards, and then finish pumping the gas and usually get a nice tip.

Remember when Hawken came out? Yes, I remember Hawken. It was a little too rough cut for me. I had about a 20 year love affair with Copenhagen until I started having stomach problems. Use to buy it by the sleeve, two at a time.

I remember going outside to turn the TV antenna with a pipe wrench.
I remember the first fishing show I ever saw was Championship Fishing with Virgil Ward.
I remember the first video game I ever had was PONG.
I remember feeding quarters in the Galaga and Donkey Kong machines at the local Junior Food store.
I remember Drive in Theaters
I remember playing with "Clackers" and having knots and bruises
I remember getting up early on Saturday mornings and laying on a blanket in the floor in front of the TV with a bowl of cereal because that was the only time cartoons came on.
I remember TV channels signing off the air late at night.

There was Hawken. And there was Gold River. I preferred Gold River when I was in the 8thgrade Hawkens tasted just like a wintergreen Lifesaver to me. I don’t remember how old I was when I dipped it, but am guessing 6th grade. My Dad would give it to me out of his store, and like said earlier, he would beat me for giving it to my kids today. I hadn’t thought about that in years.

Hawken had a lot of sugar or sweetner in it. If I remember correctly, Silver Creek and Gold River were more traditional.
