Well....my friend called and is asking if i know anyone that can run a name to see where they live so he can go get his vehicle. Im pretty sure this has been asked and shot down but i said id try.

The police i know are retired.

He is divorced. He bought a brand new car before his divorce issue and put his wifes name as a co-signer. Well they got divorced and she stole his car. Its almost paid off. She is hiding the car at her friends house he thinks but he doesnt know where this gal lives. The police and lawyer said they cant do squat cause her name is on it too. So now he is driving his parents car and paying for a car that is missing. I have the name in question. This is in Huntsville. He doesnt want to ruin his credit and he doesnt want to pay for a car thats missing. I feel for him. If yall have any advice...please share. Thanks

If she owns the house, you can look it up on the GIS. If she rents or lives with someone else, not so much.

This sounds like a really bad idea.

"familytreenow search". if he knows their name and city it will show most public info including current and past addresses phone numbers etc... the real question is who is on the title not who cosigned at the bank. If shes on the title its just as much hers as his and who was going to keep up the payments should have been addressed in the divorce.

Maybe, but there should be a good story to go along with it, one way or another.

I would agree; if I were him I would talk with an attorney. I am certainly not an attorney nor law enforcement, but I would suspect that IF she has any personal items in the car - they could arrest him for theft of property.

If the wife's name is on the car, isn't it just as much hers as his? Seems like if ownership is disputed in the divorce, it would need to be allocated just like any other co-owned assets?

I know nothing of this, but in a simple google search, I found something called a "cosigner release". Here's the article. I'd definitely go speak with the lender, inform them of what is going on, and see what options, if any, that I had. Here's the link to the article:

Cosigner Release

He’ll be arrested if he does that. All she as to do his day he’s harassing her, screamed at her, then it'll be domestic violence. Then she could get a PFA and really make his life hell.

He needs to continue making the payments if he doesn't want to ding his credit and contact his divorce attorney to address the issue through court.

If my name was on the title and registration Id find it call and wait for the police to show up and take possession of it that way you have a mediator theyll let her get her personal stuff out and you could take the car if shes also on the title you're screwed either stop making payment or take it to civil court.

I can find out everything I need to know on social media about a person, usually including where they live - but they provide that info. Look at her friends and their friends etc.... We hire someone to do it, but I've done it myself. We do this with anyone we are interviewing to hire.

not sure what the best way to handle them is but they shouldnt be on tv and gettn married and raisin kids

It's a civil matter, if both names are on the vehicle it will be on the divorce attorney to get the matter straight. Law enforcement don't have jack to do with who owns what. Your friends best bet is to continue making the payments in favor of his credit. When the divorce is settling have the attorney see if you can get back paid for the payments he made on it or get the car altogether.

Well she is listed as a “co-signer” on the loan, however, is her name on the title?

Who was awarded the car in the divorce?

What he said.

If he takes it without her permission, he is potentially going to be in trouble with the law.

I'll ask before someone else does:

She took it from him without his permission. Both their names are on the paperwork. So why isn't she potentially in trouble with the law?
