Seriously, this isn't a Clorox stump joke. I have some 55 gallon drums I'm going to cut in half and make feeding troughs out of. They were used to transport bleach. Do you think the smell is going to affect the deer feeding? If I wash them and air them out do you think the smell will go away or should I just get some food grade barrels?

I’d be worried about being able to afford keeping corn in them with the bleach smell. Deer are going to come from everywhere.

They will work fine
Cut them in half and sit them outside for a couple weeks before putting them out. Treated wood bothers my deer but if I build a feeder and sit it outside for a couple weeks before taking it to the woods they dont mind it at all.

Fill them up with water and Dawn let them sit for a week uncapped rinse and let dry. They will be fine.

This is where Albino Squirrels come from...

Life is a journey. Make sure and bring plenty of Beer.

My luck has been so bad lately, it could be raining pussies and I'd catch one with a dick broke off in it.

You are fine, but never tell any body clorox anything on here. There are bleach gangsta's that like to turn stumps you know.

Dawn and bleach are both bases. Clean with vinegar to neutralize. Then clean with soap and water. Let air out after making sure all of the soap is rinsed away.

In the Saltwater aquarium hobby, we use clorox often as a cleaning/disinfecting agent. It washes away and dissipates quickly so you should have no trouble using the barrels after cleaning and drying out.

Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

Why cut them in half? Just cut enough of the top out to pour corn in them. Buy a top to fit it from academy, and use a 2" hole saw and cut a hole about an inch up from the bottom. Now you have a gravity feeder. You can strap it to a tree or a "t" post. No need to build a roof over it, unless your wanting to feed pellets in the trough.

Protein pellets can get wet and swell. They will clog up the holes on the gravity style feeders. I have one and it works well with corn, but not pellets. These are going to be cut in half long ways, put side by side, lifted off the ground, then have a little metal roof on them.
