I’ve had a few close calls on the road lately and know a few guys who have been airlifted out of wrecks last few weeks. What coverage do y’all have? I know air evac and others have memberships for X amount per year but what if medflight picks you up? Is there a universal membership out there for all of them? What do y’all have?

It doesn't cost $60,000 to take a helicopter ride in Panama City.... why the tremendous cost and why won't insurance pay?

When my dad was airlifted from Alex city to UAB, bill was 65k. I guess insurance paid it because we never got a bill.

A lot different aircraft being flown, trained air flight nurses aboard, a lot of variables. But yes I agree that's a lot of money difference between the two.

I have medjet. It will fly me home to the hospital no matter where I am in the world. But, nothing for being airlifted.

How much does a ride cost in PC?

You’re paying for a top of the line aircraft with top of the line personnel on it. They get paid whether they fly or not. If they have to fly, most of the time it’s life saving. We call for them pretty frequently. When seconds matter, I’ll use them. I’d hate to see that bill too, but if it’s necessary to save my loved ones life, so be it.

Find the one closest to you and go talk to them. I was told by one of the services that you could join with them for about $100 a year and that would cover you for an emergency flight with them. That was either at UMMC in jackson MS or DCH Tuscaloosa. They had one rural patient that was flown once a month to get some special treatment and insurance would not cover the flight. They joined and got all the flights for free.

You're paying for all the folks that don't have insurance, a job or a care for their credit score. They make up for that by raping those that do have a job, insurance and care about their credit score. It's a fantastic system

Which is one of the reasons it is so high on those of us that do choose to pay our financial obligations. My wife and I sure could have used the $50K.

Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

This is what people never understand about emergency services like this. You aren't just paying for your individual use of them. You are paying for that service to be there 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. That costs a lot of money.

It was about $65,000 when I got airlifted in Texas for my leg injury in 2017. I was fortunate enough that my insurance company paid it.

We have full coverage on it as part of our medical insurance, but since the company pays 100% of our premiums...I have no idea how much it is.

Because the industry is not regulated by any laws determining how much they can charge to the patient. They refuse to take whatever insurance pays as the total amount and bill the difference to the patient. Look at any hospital bill and see how much is written off because of insurance agreements. What if the write off amount was instead billed to the patient after insurance paid? Most of us would be bankrupt after one or two hospital stays. I've told my wife to refuse any air ambulance. Let me die and she can keep the money.

Join air evac Matt, that’s who is going to fly you if you are anywhere around here or tn now that MedFlight went under. I think my family coverage is $60 per year, if anyone is flown they take what ins. pays and that’s it. My cousin was just flown and they asked for nothing since they were all members, the total was right around 50k. They operate on membership and will probably have a base at Calhoun soon.
