Everybody knows those baits. I'm asking recipes for making cheese or stink bait??? I've always just used live bait/ cut baits fishing and we use to load baskets as kids with meal cakes. The lady who ran the county lake here made her own stinkbait. She'd get cheese scraps from the plant in Ardmore, and mix it with shredded cattail, anise and something else. Maybe salt. But the cheese already was nasty, and she'd let it get gooey soft before mixing it by hand with the catttail fronds she'd shred out as binder. The anise was maybe, I guess, to keep her from throwing up. LOL She made it regularly and folks caught a ton of cats out of the lake all the time. When I was a kid we had a trailer on the creek over at Wilson Lake at Fisherman's Resort. This was early-mid 1970s. An older man who lived there made his own stinkin' cheese bait for slat boxes he used for selling cats. He'd get old cheese and mix in fish guts and whatever in the barrel, seal it and put it under an open-side silver tin roof 'shed' to ferment and marinate. I don't know how he vented them to keep them from bursting. It was a POWERFUL aroma and he'd use the previous year's or two years' cheese. Wouldn't use the current year because it hadn't fermented enough. Dad said he caught the snot out of catfish with it.
