Any of you younger guys got them? I'm not young but I'm much younger than your typical hearing aid wearer.
I got tested by an audiologist a couple weeks ago and got fitted for them today. I told her when she did the test and showed me how bad my high frequency loss was that I wasn't paying $7000 for hearing aids. She got me a set of "mid range" to try for 30 days. I got fitted with them this afternoon.
So far, I hate the dang things. The eardrum in my right ear (worst one) feels uncomfortable. I was out in the garden after work and every time a bird chirped it felt like somebody thumped my ear drum. I know I've had high frequency loss since my late 20 and it's progressively gotten worse and it's bad now, but I don't know if I can learn to like these things.
She told me it would take a little while to get use to them but they're driving me crazy. The did help me understand song lyrics on the radio in my truck but EVERYTHING is louder. My pants rustling, the A/C, EVERYTHING.
I don't like.
If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14

I definitely need them but keep putting it off. Close to being deaf in my left year plus I constantly hear helicopters in my right.

I wear them, and use the type that totally fits in my ear (nothing behind the ear, over the ear, etc. ). I like mine, and they do a great job. I also have high frequency hearing loss, thanks to my not taking hearing protection seriously when I worked at US Steel in Bessemer...

Mine are the mid range $4500 which is considerably less than the high range. I can adjust the volume with my Iphone. That helps a lot. If you buy them you should be able to do this also. I have Oticons if that is what you have and they do take a little getting used to. I have no idea why but some days they are more bothersome than others but that is a rarity now after about a year. If you don't have rechargeable one, got them. Worth the extra cost.
If they have the Tennitis feature, forget about it. It doesn't help.
Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

I don't know what kind these are. That would have been a good question to ask. I can adjust them with my iPhone. Turn the volume up and down and adjust an "equalizer" but that doesn't seem to change much. The volume does, just not the EQ.
If all they're going to do is amplify EVERY sound I'd be just as well off with a $200 pair of internet hearing aids.

Yes, they should be tone specific if they are worth a hoot. Mine are a great improvement but not miracle workers. I still have trouble hearing in noisy places like a crowded restaurant. It took me several visits to my audiologist to get me happy that that was as much improvement as I'll get. Once you get them as best as you can, they will be life changers. I say that even though I have them for both ears but am still almost completely deaf in my right ear. That is from a tumor that nothing will help.
Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

Use them when I goto meetings with a lot of people. I am like you they just made everything louder, BUT I was told over time that they learn different frequencies and they will adjust them. They make my ears itch so bad I never have gotten use to it. Like my CPAP. I feel if I could get use to them both my quality of life would be much better. When my would "ring" from my phone, it would scare the piss out of me also!

Thanks for the help.
I've got a CPAP, it doesn't bother me at all and the physical comfort of the hearing aids in not an issue, it's the LOUDNESS of things I don't want to hear and that dang stabbing feeling in my right ear drum. Like the way your ears feel when someone scrapes their fingernails down a chalkboard. I don't know how to explain it.
I think they are tone specific. At one time, she said she was adjusting the lower frequencies down and increasing the high frequency sounds.

They told me I could use em 5 years ago. My loss is worse in one ear. I know it’s from shooting and hunting. Then they told me the range I’d struggle with was women’s and children’s voices most. I elected not to get em.

They're now laying on the dresser in my bedroom. My dang right eardrum feels like it would after shooting a 44 magnum with no hearing protection.
