Long story short, we're in Orange Beach on vacation right now. Rip currents have been real bad this week. Seen a kid get too deep then needed help. Me and his dad took off to get him. My 1st step I took I felt a huge pop and felt like somebody hit me in my left calf with a bat. I have some swelling in the muscle. Pain is exscrutiating and can't put any weight on it at all. I've done ice on and off 30 min at a time. Somebody tell me what I can do or should be doing.

How do you know the difference between a tear and a pull without an MRI or is there a way to know. Thanks for any help.

You ain't going to make it so give me your hunting stuff. Might go to doc in box for pain meds unless you can go to Andrews Sports Med in Penscola ( I think they have one there)

ER. Have it checked before you mess it up even more.

Go get checked out. The doc in the box in GS across from Walgreens is nice & wasn't at all crowded when I went last week.

I wouldn't be trusting a muscle tear or tendon issue to a doc in a box.

Make appt with ur doctor. I wouldn’t waste the time with a doc in box or ER. They just give you some Tylenol and tell you to go see a doctor anyways. Elevate and ice.

This is kinda what im thinking. I've had a couple strains but never a tear and the swelling is what's alarming to me. It's not a ton of swelling but my left calf it noticeably puffy compared to my right. I don't think a strain would swell either.

I always thought the same until last month when my mom said she felt a pop walking upstairs and had to call someone to help her down. I'll admit my mom don't take pain well 😅 but she don't play games either I'm not sure what the diagnosis was but no surgery was involved that's why I said that...i know if i felt something like that I'd take it easy until I had a scan done...

Yeah i really dont want to go to a doc in box. We're here till Saturday. I may have to hire a kid around here to help load my ride when its time to go. I hate for my wife to do it all and keep up with kids. Hopefully I'll get some relief by then.

Side note. Ran in to Perch down here yesterday. Said he was headed to Pensacola beach and couldnt talk long. Not sure what that was all about. grin

Sounds almost identical to when I tore my left calf muscle on the beach... Go to the ER.

Ditto. You need a real doc.
Or you can rub some dirt on it and walk it off.

Get to a Dr. At best you have a tear. Could also be a partIal Achilles rupture. Both of which don’t need to wait 3-5 days. There is a hospital off 59 which treat or refer to a local ortho. Doc in a box is.better than.no doc at all

ROLL TIDE !!!

Enough Said....

I’m down here too. Red flags and flashing lights for rip currents everywhere and people appearantly think they’re just kidding. Hate you got hurt but damn they’re stupid. I’ve stayed on the boat and as far from people as possible the past few days. I’d offer you a fishing trip but A. I don’t think you can now and B. I can’t catch a fish in a bucket on this end of the bay.
