IMHO build a cheaper house, leave the 401k alone. You're gonna get hammered on taxes taking a huge lump sum amount out, losing the advantage of stretching the payout payments out. Hopefully your 401 is making you more $ than mortgage rates are running now. If life throws you a curve ball or when you retire you could pull out 401 $ then.

Only use 1/4 of take home pay for house payment on 15yr fixed.if pension is only take home pay an u can t do that then u can’t afford house. Too much risk for me to clean out 401k.If your 401k is invested in good mutual funds that average 10 percent a yr u will have 825k when u get 67 an u can afford pay off house without cleaning out 401k. Or u can just take interest every yr to help make payments. But your never know bout stock market. I know a payed for house is a great feeling but I would not clean out my 401 to do it.if u was younger an had time to build back 401 k it would be better if u didn t have pay a penalty just taxes.just my opinion.

I would finance it, its likely that you won't live to pay off the loan and your family can then use your 401k to pay it off. Or just sell it. Leave the money in your retirement, so it's making some money. Can't make money on money that's not there.

Are you in the FRS or a City pension? City I hope you are not planning on taking a lump sum on your pension if the city allows you to do so.

No way I would put that much $ into a house and debt at your age!

I'd build a cheaper house. Way cheaper.

Not sure what I would do but I can tell you for sure what I would not do. I would not touch my 401k and I would not build a house that would take me 30 years to payoff.

I'd build a cheaper house. Way cheaper. Have to build 2200 SF minimum for neighborhood and builders are charging anywhere from $165-$250 per sf to build. I will probably become the GC and sub it out and save about 25%

I firmly believe that a double gallows should be constructed on the East Lawn of The White House. Politicians who willfully and shamelessly violate their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America should be swiftly tried and, upon conviction, publicly hanged at sunup the day after conviction. If multiple convicts are to be hanged they can choose with whom to share the gallows or names shall be drawn from the hangman's hat to be hanged 2 at a time.

No way would I wipe out my retirement savings (401k) to build that much house even if I had a good pension. I'd build a less expensive house somewhere else.
