Just wondering if anyone on here has one of the new 250 4 strokes. I have a 2009 250 pro xs 2 stroke that dropped the #5 cylinder last Thursday while running. My mechanic quoted me a new "long block" with hardly any warranty for $12,000 and would take close to a year to get. They then quoted me a new 250 pro xs 4 stroke with a 3 year warranty that I can get another 2 years of warranty for $1,000. Just wondering how people like these engines and if there are any known problems because I'm just a little hesitant about an engine so new to the market.

My buddy just bought a brand new ranger aluminum boat with a 115 pro xs and it blew up or dropped a cylinder this weekend. Has less than 4 hours on it. I think they have some bugs to work out on that motor.

Yeah c’mon. Daniel White

I'm actually waiting on the guy to call me back so I can ask him about that because I didn't even think about asking when he called me since I was in the middle of getting ready to run out the door to a funeral visitation and was kinda in shock about the motor being blown.

If it didn't window the block, and destroy the crank, you need a new mechanic.

I've not heard any chatter about problems with the new 4 stroke XS, I think two of my immediate buddies are running them too. I believe Yamaha worked out all the bugs with the SHO, and now Mercury has all that to work from (plus I think this motor has been in testing for a loooong time now). I wouldn't hesitate a minute to have one, I'd really like it myself.

I wouldn't mind that but $17,200 for the mercury sounds a whole lot better than $22,000-$25,000 for the Yamaha which is what I was quoted today when I called a few dealers.

Absolutely! The quote on my buddy's Yamaha Sho that's in the shop right now was 15,000 at one place and 12,000 at a second a dealer. Way better than then old mercury's. (True story, but im just poking. They all have issues at some time or another. I like them all. ) He is thinking about switching to Mercury though.

The new motors are bad arse!!!. They are much more powerful than the old ones and are smoother than you can imagine shifting into and out of gear. They also sound like a muscle car when they crank up. Mercury hit a home run with them.

I have about 5 hours on my pro xs 115, the first 2 was following the break in procedure. No problems yet. I have a 5 year warranty, I will put it through it's paces in 5 years.

That's just mind-boggling.....$20k for a motor. I get that boat motors are a lot different than car/truck motors, but dang.....

Yeah that's what I was thinking. When I called the one dealer and they told me 25K I told them I appreciated their time and hung up. 25K ain't a whole lot less than what the boat was bought for back in 2015.

I have run a 115 Pro XS for two years so far with zero issues. Strong and quiet.

Yeah, but a brand new nitro with a 250 is almost $50,000. Big difference in a 115 and 250. Just checked, a brand new 115 pro xs is only $9,000.

Ah....I thought they were saying a new 115 was $20k.............that sounds a little more reasonable
