I have an LEM #8 grinder that I bought from Academy about 5 years ago and it was on sale for $99 and I've been very pleased with it. We usually make burger from a deer or 2 each year and make sausage out of 1-2 hogs with it. It has done really good.

It's a little more but I just saw where Cabela's has their Pro Series DC Grinder on sale for $149. It's normally $199. I want to say it is a #12 grinder. I bought one a couple weeks ago but haven't had a chance to use it.

I bought one of these also. We used it for 2 years to make our sausage. We would grind 600-700 lbs of meat a year for our sausage. For a grinder with plastic gears,it held up to the task. Just keep sharp blades and a good grinding plate and it should serve you well. Also the replacement parts are fairly cheap. We stepped up the a #22 grinder now but the little LEM is still there for a back up.

From the gitgo.....
When you buy a new grinder you should try marking one side of the grinding plate to always face outward. The surfaces of the blade and plate will become in tune to each other very quickly and sharp blades will never be an issue.

By the biggest one you can afford to begin with.

It paid $150.00 for one at either Dick's or Gander Mountain a few years ago and it works great. I'll have to check the brand for you when I get back to my kitchen.
Tip: like to freeze my meat until it gets a little firm and icy. It goes through the grinder like butter that way.

Ya'll talking about the manual one? I was going to buy one of those manuals a while ago but found a couple of nice old ones at $20 each at a yard sale. No plastic in the ones I bought, big heavy grinders from a long time ago I guess. They both have blades that rotate behind the screen, and weigh maybe 7-8 pounds each on my bathroom scale. I haven't got to try one yet but I'm hoping it will be better than a new manual grinder about the same size.

I had a small manual that I've ground a lot of deer burger on but I didn't know it was so small until I bought these grinders. It's about 1/5 the size of these I just bought last summer. I've had some deer in my scope that would have been easy killing, maybe I need an electric grinder.LOL

No sir. It's electric. Perfect little grinder for the person who just want to do a couple deer a year.

I bought one like this one but it has 1.5hp and paid quite a bit more and it is a beast. It will grind as fast as you can feed it. We tried to put it in a bind and it never changed sounds. This is one heck of a deal for a great grinder. My only complaint is the 6 10mm bolts that hold the head on. I swapped them out with some Allen head bolts and it's a breeze to remove the head now. Put a metal funnel on it and stuff sausage with it. I change to a finer screen when making sausage though.
