Trump underestimated Mattis. Dems wanted us out of the region in return for wall votes. Trump pulled the trigger and played politics with Americans lives. Mattis don’t play that. When he gives an estimate for what’s needed in the AO that’s what’s needed. Trump is out of his element here and I dread to see who replaces him because it could be a name as great as Colin Powell and it would be a step down from Mattis in that role.

You obviously haven't been paying attention, the Dems are blasting Trump the same as the Repubs for getting out of Syria - the wall and Syria have no connection. They aren't going to vote for anything Trump wants with regards to the wall no matter what. Mattis was going to leave already at the beginning of the year, this just gave him the opportunity to pull the trigger. As much as I like Mattis, he isn't irreplaceable. Me personally, I wish we'd get our troops out of Afghanistan too now, so hopefully Syria is just the start.
