Hi all,

I’m a new Alabama resident. Recently relocated for a new job to the Huntsville area from Mississippi. I’ve been doing some research on looking for a place to hunt for next year. I’m leaning towards a lease in Kentucky. I found an older post on here where a few like minded individuals went in together to lease a nice place for around $1500-1750 per person. I would be interested in doing the same but have never leased any land and am not exactly sure where to start looking. Does anyone have advice on leasing OOS hunting land? Places (sites / Facebook pages / etc.) to focus on while looking for land? Or know of any groups looking for new members?

Thanks in advance.

This website is a really good avenue to look for out of state properties, but unfortunately you are looking at the wrong time of the year. Early summer there will be several opportunities for out of state opportunities posted in this thread topic, but you have to be quick on the draw as choice spots tend to fill up quickly. Good luck! If you are interested in Kentucky there are several WMA's within 4-5 hours of your current location that offer excellent hunting, and I believe quite a few members on here are much more voiced in WMA hunting me.

Check out Merk Farms at merkfarmshunting.com. The guy is an agent that connects farmers looking to lease out their property to hunter wanting to lease it. I recommend paying the fee to get his advanced services. You tell him what you are looking for and they find it. We found a great farm through Merk 2 years ago. Give them a call

One of the best sites I have found for out of state leases is the GON forum, web site is http://forum.gon.com/. There are normally a number of leases in Kentucky available here every year.

Good Luck,
John Cooley

One way also is on the many hunting apps now that tell landowner names. If you've done your research you should have a roundabout area you're thinking of wanting to lease. Look at parcel info and just make headway by calling around. It's work, but you'd be surprised at how many landowners in Kentucky don't lease ground, but are willing, and aren't affiliated with any kind of website to lease their property.
