I have a big green egg and LOVE IT. However, i like the oval shape of the primo. Looks like maybe a little more cooking surface

I think you'll be happy with either of those. The akorn (sp?) seems like a good product for a good price. I'm not quite to that level...still rocking a charcoal grill with side smoker myself.

I've been happy with my BGE for the year I've had it. I use mine a couple times a week. The deciding factor for me was how far away a dealer was if I needed something warrantied or accessories. There's a store that sells the eggs 10 minutes from the house, closest Joe dealer was about an hour away.

When I eventually get one it will be a Made in the USA Primo

I firmly believe that a double gallows should be constructed on the East Lawn of The White House. Politicians who willfully and shamelessly violate their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America should be swiftly tried and, upon conviction, publicly hanged at sunup the day after conviction. If multiple convicts are to be hanged they can choose with whom to share the gallows or names shall be drawn from the hangman's hat to be hanged 2 at a time.

I have a Primo Oval Jr. We mostly cook for five or less and the price on this size was much less (~$600). It is very quick to light and come up to temp using a wagner heat gun. I have ceramic heat deflectors, a pizza stone, and a BBQ guru wifi shimmydo that monitors grill temp and meat temp and adjust intake air to hold desired temp. Can leave a butt on without checking it until it lets me know it is done. Only gets used for low and slow stuff but pretty cool gadget. As Wiley said it is made in the US and lifetime warranty is good just have to pay shipping or drive to Georgia for replacements.

BBQ guru wifi shimmydo

Tell me more. Have seen these(i think) and interested to know if it is worth it. Usually once i get temp on bge set, i just have to monitor temp of meat(with a digital probe unit that I have)

Primos XL here and love it. You can not go wrong with an Egg either. Mine was returned to the store, so I got a great deal. I think the only thing I like better about the Primo is the divider in the box. I only use charcoal in half of the box. Have a second rack on indirect side for smoking and can then use direct side for regular cooking, get grill marks and then move to indirect if needed.

Akorn doesn't compare to an egg. Bought an Akorn for girlfriend now wife. Gave it away when we got married. Have had an egg for about 12 years. Use it at least twice a week. Warranty is excellent.

Whatever you decide, bite the bullet and get one of the big name ceramic grills. I believe they will last a lifetime and make foods unbelievably good. Yes, a little longer to get charcoal going vs turning a switch for the gas, but the flavor can't be beat
