blr or a bolt or rem 700 - 01/26/15 11:06 PM

Trying to figure out what im s aveing for. Im a lefty. Through the blr in thinking if if ever need to get rid of it it would be easier to move . But I also like lever guns. Whats some pro and cons. Looking at a 7-08.

Being a lefty, either will be fine. I've never had much problem moving lefty guns.

My BLR was accurate, but the 700 will shoot better and will offer upgrade options imo.

The a bolt/x bolt will be jam up option too. Bolt throw is better and the trigger is good out of the box.

I would choose between the 700 and Browning.

Get the blr lightweight. Only weighs 6 1/2 lbs with 20" barrel. That gun in 7mm 08 would be a great hunting rifle.

Don't know if they've started but Browning used to NOT offer a 7-08 or any short action caliber in a standard A-bolt. You could get them in a Micro- hunter. I hear the new A-bolt IIIs are not much compared to the Is and IIs.

dnolen, I have had both. You can't go wrong with either one. It comes down to personal preference. The nice thing is that if you change your mind later on, you can try the other one. Either will last a lifetime with reasonable care. There will always be a situation where you prefer one over the other.

What kind of hunting do you do? I have a BLR 308. I like it but didn't carry often because hunting in the mountains out of a climber will ugly a rifle up pretty quick.

Its goin to get uglied up with me. I use guns as a tool. I used my nova as a boat paddel before. Ive had the same rem 700 for 17yrs. I hunt out of stands in all weather. So anything I get would be synthetic. Ive seen a few blr's in syn. But havent found a a bolt in 7-08 if I go a bolt I may have to get .270 ive handled a few micro hunters but none in syn. Dont really know about the micro hunters. I dont know if they are like the xbolt. A-bolt and 700 have proven their selves to me. Just looking at different opinions.

Do they still make the 700's with the Trinite (sp?) coating?

Based on what you say, get the SPS 700 lefty (check buds and gunbroker) or get a tikka stainless with a synthetic stock.

XCR II TryNyte. I've been thinking I'd like the 06 version of these. Doesn't look like they make a lefty though.

I just got a Lefty Tikka T3 Lite Stainless for my foul weather gun. I like it better than I thought I would and I am using it all the time now. I think you'd like the Tikka.

If you want a Lever Gun just because you like Lever Guns for deer hunting.... I fall into this category myself...

BLR Lightweight in 7mm-08 is a pretty darn strong choice.

I hunt with one in .358 all the time. It is a stainless laminated gun... so all weather. My favorite rifle for just general use.

BLR unless you want to use this gun for powerlines or large cutovers primarily. 7mm-08 or .308.

Have this exact gun dialed it in and put 3 in a dime size hole at 100 yards. A guy was there at the range looking at my gun and said he was thinking about this gun because he was left handed. So I let him shoot it after his shot he said thank you I am going to buy one today.
