Gallagher Custom build - .7mm-08 - 02/28/24 03:52 AM

Most recently, I purchased a 1971 Remington Model 700 BDL in a short action caliber, .243 win., from a member here. I took the newly acquired piece to Isaac Gallagher last Thursday afternoon for him to begin a new build for me. This short action rifle will be turned into a custom .7mm-08. This one may turn out to be my favorite yet.

Here's a preview of what's coming...

- Custom Isaac Gallagher built Remington 700 in .7mm-08
- McMillan "Hunter" Monte Carlo style stock in Black Paint with texture
- Custom, Blue (my favorite color) Spider webbing on stock done by Branden Burkhart of Kansas City, Missouri
- 24" Bartlein 3B Stainless Steel #5 Contour Barrel (1:9 twist) with Diamond Fluting
- Diamond Fluted bolt with Graphite Black Cerakote in flutes and rest polished
- Skeletonized bolt handle and bolt shroud
- Remington 700 action blueprinted
- Slab Cut Contoured action with Gallagher logo
- Customized factory Remington (Walker) trigger @ 2 lbs.
- All metal Cerakoted Graphite Black Satin
- Deer Head Laser Engraved bottom metal
- Talley one piece Lightweight rings/base
- Leupold VX-5HD 3 -15 x 44 mm CDS scope with Illuminated Firedot duplex reticle, throw lever, Optima Alumina scope covers

Hoping it will shoot the HSM Sierra Gameking 140 grain soft point ammo really well. I'm confident that it will. Now, the wait is on... rolleyes

I'll try to share a few PICS along the way.

Looking forward to this! Why change the caliber. I’m a huge 7-08 fan but just curious.

Yes sir, I know this well.

This will be my 3rd custom rifle from Gallagher Firearms.

John and Isaac built my first one, a short action .308 built on a long action.

Isaac built my second rifle, my .30-06.

Now, he is building this 7mm-08.

Can't wait until this one is completed.

1. Caliber change is really nothing much more than a barrel change. I don't want to use a barrel that has been on a rifle that long, so going with a new barrel in a different caliber.

2. I already have rifles chambered in .243 so I don't want another one. I don't have a 7mm-08. This will be my first one.

That's simply the reason.

John built a 338 06 AI on a M700 action for me several years ago. Lilja barrel, Borden Rimrock stock, Timney trigger. Had John mill a flat in the action and turned the bolt shroud to save a few ounces. Mounted a Swaro Z6 1.7-10x42 scope on it.

Loaded with Hornady 200 gr SST bullets to 2870 FPS, it HAMMERS critters.

No tracking dogs needed.

Great choice Cuz . The 7-08 punches way above it's weight, especially with Nosler Partition bullets. Plus, it wont kick your fillings out and is PLENTY for a woods goat. Mine is a Kimber 84 with some killer wood and it will be with me til I'm done.
