10mm handguns

10mm handguns - 03/21/23 02:38 PM

I got a wild hair I need one. My top 2 contenders are a G20SF and the M&P 4 in barrel. The M&P has a $100 rebate right now too and has an optics ready slide.

Anyone shot both? Thoughts?

Had and liked a Springfield XDM. Prefer that cartridge in a 1911 platform, though.

Even though it's a ridiculous answer in 2023, I fully expected to see someone who is as old as I am say "Bren Ten from 1984" in response. I can't think of a 10mm without thinking of Detective Sonny Crockett. Of the 1,400 or so ever made, very few would be functional to shoot these days, I'm sure, even though it's a $2,500 pistol.

I have the S&W M&P 10mm and I have owned a couple of Glock 20’s and a Glock 40 MOS 10mm’s in the past. They all are great guns and will feed any ammo I ever shot in it reliably. I like the 15 round magazine capacity of the Glocks and the S&W M&P 10mm’s.

Good point from deadeye. OP, what will be your main purpose for having the 10? Would you be using it for hunting or just having one for personal use and protection. If it is hunting, you may want to go revolver and heavier round for longer shots. If it is for personal use and protection, against man or beast, then Glock in that G20 is fine. Just know that it is a big gun compared to the .40, yes even the SF is beefier, but you want that in the 10mm cartridge.

If you do get the Glock, get the trigger connector to take it down a few pounds of pull.

Cheapest one on the market right now is $15,250. There’s one with multiple slides, magazines, and barrels for different calibers that they are asking $60,000 for. 😳

I just hate a stock Glock trigger. A Springfield XDM Elite has a much better trigger, one with a red dot on it follwed me home just last week. Haven't had a chance to shoot it yet though.

Have the XDM and the G40. The XDM trigger is great but the reset is off because the first reset “click” isn’t the actual reset. There is a second click after that initial that is. I hate that.

Re: 10mm handguns - 03/21/23 08:02 PM

It would be my "woods gun" basically. If I went hunting, hiking, camping etc. I don't want a wheel gun. I have seen to many Springfields go in for service at Marks. It's going to be a glock or S&W although I could see me going for a Tanfoglio if the price was right.

I did pick up a CZ75 the other day. It's the first time I have handled one and OMG, it was just amazing. Heavy, but it just felt like a glove for me.

Guy I work with carries a Kimber Camp Guard, daily. It is a 1911 platform, though.

That was supposed to say "somebody done flung a craving on you, huh"......... Talking about the other 10mm thread. Predictive text must have come up with "somebody fine". I had turned that off but it helps my spelling sometimes so I cut it back on again. I need to start proof reading

Re: 10mm handguns - 03/22/23 02:49 AM

My only dealings with the s&w was all the extra work to get it to cycle. It was a pia to get it to run.I've got a glock 20 and it's my favorite pistol I own. If you go with the glock put a timney trigger in it.

I have a Glock 20. Excellent choice for a woods gun. I have shot deer and bobcat with it.

I looked getting a 10mm but I just like my 357 in the woods

Now that 10mm revolver looks pretty damn good .

Re: 10mm handguns - 03/22/23 07:57 PM

I've got a Glock 40 and a 20. Never hunted with them. That 40 is a beast of a gun and shoots great.

Re: 10mm handguns - 03/22/23 08:24 PM

When you think 10mm you think .357 Magnum in a semi-auto.

You don't think 44 Magnum. Not even close to that.

If I were going to shoot someone.. Give me a 10mm all freaking day. It's a darn good'un. It is at or near top of the page for me. I like it that much.

But if I were going to shoot a whitetail you are basically hunting with a .243. It will do it.... but I don't know why you'd do it on purpose if you could afford a real gun.

I love 10mm but that's reality. I've shot a LOT of deer with a pistol and I've been stacking up hogs a plenty lately. 10mm would not be my preferred round if I were buying a pistol to hunt with. If 44 isn't your thing... then look at .41 mag.

Re: 10mm handguns - 03/22/23 10:07 PM

I like 9mm for concealed carry. But then again, I like 243's for deer too. Especially in a Tikka.

Are you running an optic? If so which one? I’m planning on ordering the 10mm this week.

Re: 10mm handguns - 04/03/23 10:00 PM

I him hawed about a 10mm for a bit. Sure won't replace the 629 during deer season, but is a nice switch up over the 357. Still prefer a revolver during snake weather with snake shot in the first two cylinders. Picked up a Tisas D10 and also slapped a 10mm slide on my G21. The 1911 has a better trigger pull and more accurate. Holds less rounds of course, but 9 rounds aren't too shabby either.
