CVA Scout 35 Whelen?

CVA Scout 35 Whelen? - 11/29/22 03:49 AM

I sight it in with that loud arse muzzle break on it. I found out the hard way that I can hunt with it without my hearing protection on. I can’t stand to wear them when I’m hunting. I’m going to take the break off and put the barrrl nut on. My question is do y’all think it will affect POI by doing this? Just wondering if anyone has done this and had any info to share. I’m gonna check zero after I change it but if it’s not necessary I’d rather not waste a high $ round.

3% is right. I’ve had guns that only moved 1/2” and others that moved INCHES when you pulled the brake off. Only one way to find out.

I wouldn't look at it a waste. You gotta know what's fixing to happen or your basically goin hunting with a gun that ain't sighted in

I'd send one downrange just to sure.

I’m planning on shooting it. I figured it would change. Just asking if anyone had ever done it and it didn’t affect it. Fixing to head to my range now before the weather gets bad

Just went shoot it. It shot 4” low at 100yds. Made adjustments and verified with another shot. Good to go again.

How much recoil is it making now? I figured it would have a good thump. I hate muzzle breaks.

Not sure. My rest has shock absorbers on it so felt recoil is minimal. It packed a pretty good punch with the break so I’m sure it’ll be a little worse. Now the only time I’ll fire it will be at animals and I never notice the recoil then. I hope!!

To me my H&R kick about like my Remington SPS 7 Mag. To me it's not bad at all

Comparing a HR 35Wh to a 7mag? I’ve shot several 7mags, REM and Weatherby, and they didn’t bother me, but I’ve shot some 3006 I didn’t like.

I have the same rifle in .444 Marlin. I removed the brake first thing. It’s a beast off the bench.

Yeah , the 7600 has a little kick to them for some reason but not bad.

Kicking has a lot to do with the stock and recoil pad . I think the size of the shooter plays a part in it too

Hardest kicking, or at least the most uncomfortable, gun I ever shot was a 742 3006 with a plastic butt plate. It hurt me. I’m not too proud to say I don’t really care for recoil and my 270 is as much as I’ll tolerate.

Recoil isn’t going to be a factor for me. It can’t kick any worse then my 3.5” Browning BPS or My muzzleloader with 150gr of powder. I just wish I could find a good buck to play the game right so I could test the recoil.

My Browning A-Bolt 35 Whelen with 200 grain Hornady's doesn't kick any worse than a heavy loaded 30-06. I've shot an A-bolt 7mm Rem mag and 300 Win mag that kicked worse.

Has a lot to do with the gun . I can shoot slugs thru my bps 10ga all day. I got a S&W 916T pump it a short slug barrel that jars my teeth with a 3"slug . Good recoil pad can worth its weight in gold . Lol

I bought a savage axis II 30-06 put a 35 Whelen barrel on it and a boyd thumb hole stock on it and it shoots nice .

Mine is an original A-Bolt 30-06 that I sent to JES Reboring in Oregon and had it bored and chambered to 35 Whelen, cut to 20 inches and put it in a B&C stock.
