I hear good things about the Meopta and that they are very comparable to Leupold but not as pricey.

Waiting is over.
Put in the MCARBO trigger spring and sighed in the Meopta scope with federal 130gr nosler ballistic tip.

2nd hunt scored a sow at 120 yards. Dropped her in her tracks.

Little ones came back in field 210 yards away.
Tried to line 2 up, but only got one of them.

Really like this gun.

Nice rifle!
I've used MCARBO springs in the past and all gave results as good or better than advertised.
Well, except the X-Bolt trigger spring. Me nor my gauge could tell a difference with that one...

Per Winchester's site:

https://www.winchesterguns.com/support/faq/where-are-winchester-firearms-manufactured.html#:~:text=All%20Winchester%20over%20and%20unders,in%20our%20factory%20in%20Portugal.

Winchester Model 70.
It is no secret that Winchester Repeating Arms is part of the greater Herstal Group, with factories all around the world. The best factories are used for each model. Assembly and production of Model 70s have been shifted to our Viana, Portugal plant as indicated on the barrel inscription. Earlier production of USA-made guns is marked as such. For the first seventy years, production was in New Haven, Connecticut, the factory that closed in 2006. After 2006, a number of Model 70 bolt action rifles were produced at a Herstal Group factory (FNM) in South Carolina, U.S.A. over several years.

Production was then moved to our factory in Viana, Portugal -- a factory which was already part of the Herstal Group (our parent company). Generally, today, key parts are likely sourced worldwide with the rifle made and assembled in Portugal.

Re: Just a waiting game now. - 12/18/20 01:55 PM

I got 20 boxes of Federal 130gr Nosler ballistic tip, before the scare at a closeout through Dunn's Sporting goods.
Took a chance in the order, and they have performed/grouped really well. These are the only rounds I have.
Still haven't done a 3/5 shot group without gusting winds, to see the true results.

Shot a buck today with the 270 ShortMag Featherweight.

Dropped in his tracks at 145 yards. Bullet was under skin of offside shoulder. Very impressed with the Federal 130s and the Featherweight!

Deer weighed an even 180 lbs. I've passed him up 3 separate times, hoping a friend or younger child would shoot him. He just hasn't been seen when they are hunting.

Re: Just a waiting game now. - 01/21/21 04:45 AM

Shot a doe while slipping around after work today.

She stepped out in the road around 85-90 yards away, and looked at me, standing straight on.
She made the mistake of allowing me to lay prone, and the bullet entered above her nose, 2" from the end of nose on her bridge, dead center.

There wasn't anything left of her lower mouth other than 3/4" right side and 1" left side of her lower back jaw bones.
No lower jaw, skin, tongue, hair, nothing. It just disappeared in 270WSM obviation.

I looked all around where she dropped and couldn't find anything other than a tuff of white hair and the painted red ground mixed with brown oak leaves.

The bullet was found on the back of her neck just under the skin when she was cleaned.

It folded back nicely, better than the 7pt shot in the shoulder.

I had to find this thread again. Love that gun. I gave the Featherweight a rest last year as I was wanting to shoot a deer with my dad's old rifles. I did that so I'm toting my .270 Featherweight this year. I'll post up a kill as well. Mine uses Hornady 140gr BTSP.

Good to read of you taking a deer with your dad’s rifle!!
Post up your featherweight kills here please!

Here’s another coyote I took with the 270WSM Featherweight.
Made a long 250 plus shot bracing off the Polaris steering wheel.
She was mousing in a fresh cut clover field when we drove up.
Didn’t expect to get her, as she went out of my sight picture when I shot/pulled trigger.

Notice the piece of meat in the tree, as she made her last leap across the creek!
The bank on her side is 3-4 feet lower than where I’m standing on the field side, where I’m taking the picture.

Dad found this when we went to look to see if I made the hit.

Thanks for posting pic, David!
About 815 I had 4 deer come through. First 2 were fawns that still had faint traces of spots. Next was a medium size doe. Then this doe bringing up the rear. At the shot she ran by me and fell in the ATV trail about 40 yards away. I drove the SXS right next to her, tilted the bed back, threw the synthetic cable over the cab and winched her right up into the bed and headed to the skinning shed. Didn’t have to drag her an inch. She weighed 100lbs on digital scales.

That gun has some miles on it and has some dings on the wood and some wear on the bluing but for a 32 year old gun, it’s sweet!

Thank each of you!
I’m still like a little kid with the excitement.
Been wanting this deer gone for a while, with several other larger bodied 6 and 7 points which have been the bosses over our 8s and 10s.

I’ve had two 7pts killed on our place this year by others.
They weighed 198.7 and 193.4 lbs. live weight.

This deer had a larger rack but only weighed 174.9 lbs.
Rather glad as I was by myself.

Bullet size hole in shoulder and about a quarter sized hole coming out midside below the back. Cat was quartered to me.

These Nosler based bullets do fairly well of holding together and mushrooming, as seen in the previous post above these for the deer, though the weight retention wasn't as much as I thought.
