6.5 PRC - 09/29/20 08:17 PM
Any of y’all have any experience with this round? I’m looking real hard at a Springfield Waypoint 2020 chambered in it.
Shaw based off the .30 T/C case it's Hornady's way to modernize the .264 win mag short action style. It'll tote the pain as far as you want to shoot. A bud sent me a video of a fallow buck absolutely wrecked @ 225 yards.

Re: 6.5 PRC - 09/29/20 09:41 PM
I essentially have shot the same 6.5 bullets at similar velocity for years. Taken a lot of different animals. Really good setup for long range shooting and/or a setup for Deer/Antelope/Sheep that kind of thing. It's what all the hype over the 6.5 Creedless always wanted to be about.

257wby built a 6.5PRC, hopefully he'll see this and give you some insight.

Re: 6.5 PRC - 09/29/20 11:08 PM
Just a little faster than the Creedmoor. I am pleased with the 147 grain Hornady. We killed 2 bucks last year both at 268 yards. It puts a hurting on them! It has no recoil what so ever with the brake. I have the Savage High Country. The brake is not loud on this gun. I can shoot with no protection. That break on the Springfield I would definitely change, I bet it will ring those ears. That Springfield is a sweet looking setup. I think you will be pleased.

Ol' 257 has one. I'll be adding one to my arsenal soon. Just hate i let a cheap Winchester wsm slip through my hands last year.......

I'm with you thinking about getting one as well!

Re: 6.5 PRC - 09/30/20 12:59 AM
If I get it, I’ll be shooting it without an ear splitting brake. This is the version I’m looking at. Now to decide on the glass.....

I’ve got a custom I had put together in 6.5 PRC. Currently doing load work with 130 gr Sierra TGKs. Showing promise with a couple loads. It’s what many of the Creedmore fans think they have.

I saw that rifle today, It will probably be my next purchase rifle. Wish they offered it in a 300 wsm, probably will end up with a 6.5 prc

Re: 6.5 PRC - 09/30/20 12:24 PM
As a point of clarity, the 6.5 PRC is based on the 300 RCM case, it’s the 6.5 creedmoor that is based off the 30 TC case. The PRC seems like a real sweet spot in the market. I have a Mauser action that I’ve been meaning to build for a couple years, I was originally going to chamber it in 264 Win mag, but leaning toward the PRC now.

Re: 6.5 PRC - 09/30/20 12:48 PM
I started hunting with my Christensen BA Tac in 6.5 PRC last season. The gun's purpose is long range shooting/hunting. 300-700 yards on deer and 700-1000 yards on steel. Great round. If you plan to target shoot, I would go brake. If just for hunting and you'll check zero and shoot 2-3 deer with it, don't get the brake. But, both are loud and require hearing protection.

I'm really liking the Waypoint Rifle as well. Hard to justify a custom rifle in todays market you can get some really good performance right off the shelf.

I have a Bergara premier Highlander that I have put maybe 150 rounds through. This season will be the first time to hunt with it. Like it so far.

I bought a Premier Highlander last year in 280 Ackley Improved before they discontinued that offering. After hunting with it last year, it has become my go-to hunting rifle. I couldn't recommend the Premier Highlander enough.

I'm curious. What y'all getting from the 6.5 variants that you can't get from a 243?
I'm curious. What y'all getting from the 6.5 variants that you can't get from a 243?
If I had to take a guess, it's that the 243 has been around for decades and the 6.5 PRC is the new kid on the block and everyone wants the new thing....
6.5 prc is .532 .243 is .473 around. Bigger around more powder.

The 243 has a flatter trajectory up to 500 yards. From 700 to 1000 yards I can see a minor advantage to the 6.5 prc.

Re: 6.5 PRC - 10/03/20 03:34 AM
The biggest advantage is longer, heavier bullets that have a better SD and BC

The only version of the Springfield Waypoint that will be available til the first of the year is the carbon fiber barrel with the non adjustable stock for $2275. I got a Bergara HMR Pro today. Going to top it with a Nightforce 5.5-22x56.

No one needs a better BC for shooting at 500 yards much less the average 100 yard shots most folks are hunting from

They both have almost same trajectory 0-500 however the 6.5 prc is pushing a much larger piece lead with more energy. I don’t have one but that is the major difference 0-500.

Re: 6.5 PRC - 10/06/20 03:00 AM
.243 can not touch a 6.5prc. A closer comparison would be a 7mm-08 vs 6.5prc. I am not a long range hunter, but my friend is. He is doing cartwheels over this round. However, for those like me who do not shoot animals regularly at ranges +500 yards, we will never see the benefits of this round. A .308 will work fine for us.

No argument there ... I would guess most "hunters" don't even no what BC or SD are

Can’t hide money!!
The internet has taught "shooters" that BC is king and has tried to ignore WDM Bell Killin elephants with a 7x57. I'm not sure if we had a test before issuing licenses of 6 inches at 100 yards off a fencepost or kneeling if they could pass.
Let me know and I'll bring you this 300prc to try if you want waiting on the leupold mk5 to go on top right now

Re: 6.5 PRC - 11/14/20 01:12 AM
Zeroed my Bergara HMR Pro 6.5 PRC today. After zeroing, I cleaned the bore and shot a 0.60” 3 shot group. I love this caliber. Can’t wait to see what it performs on a whitetail. Already thinking about selling my Tikka .300WM and getting a lightweight 6.5 PRC for a treestand gun and to carry out west. That Bergara ain’t lightweight. It’s definitely a shooting house rifle.
The high left shot was the fouling shot. Should have shot a 4th and discarded it. Probably would have been under 0.5”. Thanks to Cuz-Pat for the use of his fine shooting facilities today.

Based on what I see at the ranges off sandbags, that would reduce the hunting pressure on the alabama herd by 70-90%.

I’ve taken two does with the HMR Pro so far. I love the way that rifle shoots. The new one shoulders and balances nicely. Be great for those off handed shots when you don’t have a prop.

3 good bucks down with mine so far this year, 2 in Texas, 1 in Bama. Think I’m going to see how Accubonds and TTSXs shoot this spring.

Re: 6.5 PRC - 12/05/20 12:39 AM
Range report for the Bergara Premiere Mountain Rifle 2.0 is a good one. Took a few shots to get it were I wanted it. That Zeiss I have has 1cm clicks at 100 meters and the turrets adjust bassakwards from my Nightforce. 3 shot group measured 0.68”. I’ll take that with a light weight rifle shooting off a bag any day. I was shooting the same Hornady ELD-X 143gr. I shot out of the HMR Pro.

Didn’t realize how popular it had become here, got my hands on one yesterday. I wanted a light blend between a bench gun and a hunting rifle to use out west for mule deer and antelope and I’m sucker for calibers that most folks haven’t heard of here. Only had about 15 minutes to get the range setup this afternoon after work and send a few down range but I got it zeroed, will shoot for groups tomorrow. Shooting factory ammo for now, I have 143 ELD-X now, 147 ELD-M coming Sunday, and some 130 ABs from Choice Ammunition coming Thursday.
