Hydro Dipping - 08/01/20 01:22 AM

Anyone on here ever done your own Hydro Dipping, thinking about putting it on my Ruger American Predator? If you did it yourself how hard was it? How durable is it?
Thanks

No chemist but I'd look into cerakote. What I understand is hydro is like a water transfer "film" onto the object. Course I could be as wrong at Atlanta's bullpen tonight.

No Dave that is what I understand about Hydro Dipping. I really want a Boyds pepper laminate stock but with all of the options the one I would cost 300.00, I will keep researching my options. Thank you

I may be cray cray but I swear somebody on the forum said you can hydrodip a pattern and then have clear cerakote applied over it for durability

Gun solvents will eat it up

Just get it cerakoted, in either OD green, armour black, or sniper grey. i have done them all. They look great with a boyds classic or thumbhole stock.

I know someone who did his own 870 stocks.
It looked like hammered chit when he was done.
May need to consider the applicator to though.

It is possible to spray a clear cerakote over a hydro dipped part.
Gun solvents won't take it off then either.

I know Brad. I’ve seen his work and it looks good. Bought several guns from him. I haven’t seen him in a while. Unless he’s moved locations his old store front is closed.

I dipped my 870 20ga last year in mossy oak greenleaf. Will NEVER try to do it again. I had the water temp right and everything and could not get the film to do right. Looks like crap up close but the turkeys didn't seem to mind it much.

I think I will just save up some money and get me a Boyds stock. I really like that Pepper Laminate
