Leica Magnus... - 10/22/19 08:31 PM

Anyone have any experience with these scopes? Think I am about to pull the trigger on a 2.4-16×56 and was wanting to hear some feedback.

No experience with the Magnus, but Leica makes a great scope.

Europtic is selling these at half price right now.

I do not have any experience with the Leica Magnus but I have owned a Leica ERi riflescope and Leica Ultravid binoculars. Leica is about as good as it get in optics and are 1 of the Big 3...Swarovski and Carl Zeiss. The only drawback with Leica and a deal breaker for some is the warranty offered and Leica customer service does not have a great reputation when spending this much money on a sports optic.

That's where I bought mine from. Only complaint is the 4a reticle with it being so thin, can't complain about the price though..

That's why I'm not interested even at the low price. I want a reticle I can see to end of legal light, and beyond...

The ones on sale at Eurooptic are the non-illuminated reticles, or they were last time I looked.

That's right. I was looking for a scope on a $1000 +/- budget. Figured it was a good buy.

Then a Leica with illuminated reticle is as good as it gets. I used one a bit and the reticle illumination is as good as it gets for being low enough even at midnight to shoot if you wanted to. Mine had tunneling on the low side of the magnification and since that's where I stayed 90% of the time ,I sold the scope.

If I was paying big $$$ for any scope I hadn't already evaluated in person,I would make sure to deal where I could send it back ,with no questions asked. It's the small details in the higher end scopes that set them apart more so than the glass quality. It's hard to know if you will like a scope until you actually handle it.

That's another issue I have a big problem with when looking through a scope. I shoot with both eyes open and tunnel effect is very distracting to me. The Swarovski Z6 models have a huge eyebox and no tunneling and are easy to get behind. Not cheap but the difference is huge IMHO.

Re: Leica Magnus... - 10/23/19 04:16 PM

The glass is great but the field-of-view on the Magnus scopes is about as piss poor as it gets for high end optics. I don't think any are over about 30 yards on low power..... This is what contributes to the tunneling. The width of the view is too narrow for the variable range in power.

I'm just not a Leica fan really. To me they are not on par with other scopes in their price ranges if you are paying full price.

Field-of-view is one of the very first things I look at when I review the specs of a rifle scope. To me it is one of the most important elements along with eye relief and I like a generous eye box. I concentrate on those aspects first before I get all excited about the clarity. The clearest scope in the world can also be a piece of junk in my book. Other elements such as FOV determine which scope makes a better optic for hunting to me. If you want to see the hairs on a gnat's ass at the rifle range.... these become less important when target shooting.

Personally, at that number, I would buy this one - MASH

Not sure how I missed this...I have requested an RMA to swap out for the Klassik.

Definitely choose the S&B over the Leica.

Thanks Paul. This will actually be going on the rifle I bought from you. Thought my Dad needed a little upgrade from the VX3..

If anyone just bought the Leica 2.4x16x56 and decides they don't want it, I would like to discuss buying it from you.
