Trijicon ACOG

Anybody have any experience with a Trijicon ACOG? I have read a lot on them and have looked through and handled them in stores a few times. From what I have read they are about as good of a battle optic as You can get. I am interested in anyone’s real world experience with them to help talk me into buying one. I am interested in the 3X30 version which l think is the largest objective offered and calibrated for the 7.62X39 caliber.

They are really quality optics but you are sort of bound to the magnification unless you have a model with a reflex sight on the top, in which case you will pay a lot of money for it. I prefer a Eotech with a magnifier . Eotech's field of view is amazing and the magnifier can be flipped over when not in use. It's a cool rig that a lot of people who ran ACOG's are going to.

I've got one and have used one. They are great but for what it is and what it cost.... you can just use a low power variable scope and I think you would be better off if money is a factor. Put another way... they just don't do a lot. A red dot with a magnifier is maybe more versatile.

I prefer a good quality 1-6 or 1-8 variable power optic with a CQB type illuminated reticle in a sturdy one piece mount. Way more versatile.

Had one that came with my first AR...while it was a nice optic, it served me no use as the AR was just used for plinking. I knew nothing about them at the time I purchased the AR (everything came as a package deal)...after doing research, I sold the ACOG for just about what I paid for the whole package.

ACOGs are tough, battle ready optics designed for warfare. If that is what you are looking for you’d be hard pressed to beat it in terms of reliability and longevity. Understand that you will have to replace the tritium down the road. It’ll be 12-15 years but it has a radioactive half-life of about 12 years and will become progressively dim beyond that. I found the 3x lacking for my needs. I’m not shooting at people, as a general rule, and prefer 1x for close work and 4-6+ for farther shooting at game. On my primary home defense carbine I run a Trijicon RMR cowitnessed with flip-up irons.

I like the eotech with a flip away magnifier gives you the option on 1x or whatever power magnifier you put behind it I've got a vortex magnifier behind mine because the eotech magnifier costs as much as the sight itself the vortex is around $200.

I will be using it to have some fun at the range and also it will be a SHTF Setup so I want the best there is to be prepared if that scenario ever happens. The Trijicon will Be Mounted on a Arsenal SAM7SF . I am looking to get the Trijicon ACOG 3X30 calibrated for the 7.62X39. I have been studying the Trijicon VCOG but there is none calibrated for the 7.62X39 that I have found. Thanks for all the information and input In this thread 👍🏻

Don't get too caught up with what the reticle is "calibrated" for because that will only work for one specific grain weight of bullet with one specific powder charge. Buy the ACOG/VCOG you want and see where the reticle marks work for the ammo you will be running in the rifle. I've been thru the same thing with a scope calibrated for .300BO

I’m assuming you’ll be using a quality mount like RS or Midwest Ind on the side rail.
So you know, for your application, and platform, there are many robust, quality com bloc made optics that will fill the same roll, cheaper, and are actually made for the AK. They sit very low over bore as compared to many attempts at western optics on a pic rail.

Mdees, I got the Arsenal SM-13 Mount installed on the SAM7SF. Can You list the Com Bloc optics You mentioned? I will look at all available options. Thanks!

I'm pretty sure that is the same scope my son had on his rifle in boot camp. He liked it. They made them tie them to there rifles with something like spider wire in case they got knocked off during the crucible.

They do not all feature magnification but look into the PK-AS, Obzor, PK-01, PO3.5x17.

If I had been allowed to choose my own optics, I would not have picked the acog.
A good Burris or Meopta with illuminate reticle is a far better choice.

All depends on what YOU want. I've shot the ACOG out to 600 yards very accurately and easily with 5.56. I guess it all depends on the shooter and application but I have never needed much magnification out to 600

Acog is about indestructible. You have to factor that into the equation when looking variable power low magnification hunting optics on a tactical rifle.

That is the reason I am considering the ACOG. I want a weapon that will have the least chance to fail Me in a SHTF situation. The Arsenal SAM7SF and the Trijicon ACOG should be very reliable in that situation.

The military uses them for that very reason. Sounds like a no brainer if you are looking for a failsafe optic.
