7.62x39? - 12/13/18 02:29 PM

I built an AR in 7.62x39 to carry with me on the farm to use on the hogs. I will be shooting the surplus 123gr HPs. Also looking at the possibility of using it for a woods gun for deer hunting. I used to have a SKS and my brother killed quite a few deer with Rem corlokts. Any of you guys deer hunt with this caliber and was rounds are y'all shooting?

I don’t know much about a 7.62x39, but I have that same rifle rest.

Great looking build.
I know a guy who had a Mini 30
And used it as a woods gun for deer. He raved about it. Not sure what bullet.

I like the Barnaul(Brown Bear) 154gr SP in the SKS and AKM. Don’t have an AR in x39, though.

Have 2 in AR configuration.
Would love one in that Ruger American Ranch.

I use 123 grain Winchester Power Points and have had good luck on both deer and hogs with it. I want to try some of the cheap stuff in a soft point too, but haven't found it in anything but FMJ at my local hardware store. Nice build by the way, I bet you will be pleased with your choice of caliber too !

Wife killed a few with an SKS and Tula 123g hollow points. What grip and stock do you have there?

Resembles the Archangel stock I have on a SKS...

The stock is an Adaptive Tactical EX Performance. The grip is just a cheap UTG pistol grip. Stock has the QD sling adaptor and the regular style hole for something like an Uncle Mikes sling swivels.

tula 8m3 is what you want for cheap but effective ammo. Most of the steel cased hp's perform like fmj's. I think sgammo sale the for like 25 cents a round. There's some youtube videos on there performance.

The doctor who did the autopsy on Elivis said if he wasn’t dead when they brought him in he damn sure was when he left.

Have used a mini 30 for deer before. Killed a few at less than 100 yards. Took forever to get that gun to where it’d shoot a descent group. Don’t recall any of them dropping in their tracks usually ran a little ways.
